Default Look at what I got! A little underhood cleanup!

Well I got some stuff powdercoated and tomorrow after work I will start ripping stuff apart to replace! Can't wait to see how it looks when it is all done. Obviously one color is silver metallic but the other is a very eye catching gunmental! Both are metallic. Also the bolts on the radiator shroud, TB, and MAF will be replaced with stainless ones.

I also plan to fill in the "LT1" on the TB with paint, hide the fuel lines, replace the blue plug wires with black, hide the hood latch, and hide the wires on the passenger fender. I'm kind of confused how to do the wire mod though because LS1's have clips that you just take apart and plug back in, I on the other hand have fusible links and such so if someone has done it please feel free to help me out. And the fuel lines will have to wait because I have to order the stainless lines and quick connects. Anyway here we go!

Here is a quick before I snapped today. Really dirty! LOL

Got a few questions. LOL I just noticed there is a little bit of powdercoat in the injector holes and gasket surface, DAMMIT! Hopefully they slide in fine because I know when they get pulled out again they will more than likely catch the powder. Gasket surface should be fine because it looks like it got coated evenly with clear powdercoat, checked it with a straightedge. Anyway...

1.How have you guys with LT1's done the wire mod? Like I said we have no clips like LS's so I have to do something with the fusible links right?

2.When you lay down the RTV for the intake do you put the 1" up the head and then put the gasket down or do you put the gasket down and run the RTV on top of the gasket?

3.When I replace the vacuum fittings in the manifold do I use liquid thread sealant or plumber's tape?

4.Do you guys use any gasket sealer on the actual gasket around the ports? I was thinking about spraying them with the copper aerosol stuff since the intake has powdercoat on the gasket surface just as a safe measure.

1.well i haven't done the wire mod ust yet, but i believe you could unbolt the distribution block wires and maybe that would work? again i haven't looked into it too much.

2.put the gaskets on the head, then run you RTV on top of it.

3. you could use either, but liquid thread sealer would be "safer" so there wouldn't be the slight possibility of extra tape coming off inside the intake

4) you don't have to. Just scotch-brite the gasket surfaces and get that crap off

I went through the effort of prepping and painting all of my parts. Talk about a major pain in the ***. I wish I would have just taken it all to a powder coater.

I would suggest trying to remove the powder from the gasket surface. I'm careful to tape that stuff off when coating intakes, whoever coated your parts should have been as well. It should be even as you mentioned, but powder is a very slippery surface and also flexes and pushes back against being torqued, unlike paint which will just crack and get out of the way. Both of those things can cause some problems when smashing a gasket down on it.

Yea it kind of made me laugh because he did have it all taped off because the underside is not the gray color at all, but for whatever reason he unmasked it when he cleared it because only clear is on the mating surface.

yup, sounds like a brain fart. either than or he doesn't spend the money for 400 degree tape..masked with regular tape..shot the base coat cold and pulled the tape prior to curing..then shot the clear hot to save time but of course there's no tape on the intake at that point if you aren't using tape that can survive the cure temps. I just spend the money for 400 degree tape and don't have to sweat those problems
