Well as a lot of you know Im in the middle of building my 355 with LE2 heads and cam. I used a donor long block out of a 95 Z so i could get started without pulling mine just yet. Well my son is 14 1/2 and it wont be long until he is driving. I have seen a 92 Rs in my small town for years sitting in a guys yard. Its the one with the big spoiler on it. Im going to go by and see what he wants for it. I want to rebuild my LT1 and put it in for my son. Im sure the wiring is ate up by rats so i would have to replace the whole harness. Just wondering if anyone has done the swap into a 3rd Gen car and if there are any good right ups. It will be a year and a half project and im sure it will take every bit of it. But it is perfect timing and a good thing for me and my boy. Tell me what you think and if you can lead me to some good write ups on it
Thanks James B

We had a member on the LTX Shootout board that just did a 3rd gen swap earlier this year. He's on LTXTech too...

I actually know someone doing this exact thing right now. 91 Z28 (the z28 actually is the one with the big wing, not the RS) and an LT1/4L60E out of an impala SS. IIRC they bought some alum heads off of an fbody and are using those instead of the iron impala ones. I think the hardest part is the electrical wiring. supposedly getting a wiring harness made that works is kind of pricey. the car only has ~ 57k miles on it. the previous owner was going to make a drag car and decided not to but had already sold the 700R4 and TPI 350 so he sold the car with a spare LT1/4L60E out of an impala with "some assembly required" ie the motor/trans wasn't even in the car.

imo its worth it to find a good 5.3 or even 4.8 in place of a lt1.
$ for $ the ls swap will net the best bang for the buck. the 5.3 is very close to the lt1 in stock form, but the 5.3 has better flowing heads. a milled heads, ls6 cam, ls6 intake and supporting bolt ons will make some excellent power.
in my rcsb with full stock exhaust, these mods but non egr truck stock intake,tb, cai, tune. has laid down 286rw. thru stock a4 trans, tq conv., rear end. and i pull down around 20mpg
if u want more details about my setup lmk

your right about the RS i just wasn't thinking, i know the big wigs where only on the 91 and 92's . I want to use the LT1 out of my car for it. LOL I want to make him suffer with the LT1. It will be his first car so i will do the LE1 budget heads and a small cam. I dont want him killing himself with a beast. His mom would kill me.! !!!!!!! !!!

Heres mine. Ive done a couple others as well and its really the easiest swap you can do. get you wiring harness from the 4th gen and send it to tom at LT1wiring awesome prices and a great final stand alone product. Ive used him for all the LS1 and LT1 swaps weve done.

To the OP. The swap is really easy. It can be done really cheap if you could use a donor car like I did. There is alot of information on http://www.thirdgen.org. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I will try to help you out if I can. Good luck with the swap.
