Lt1 / procharger / 91 iroc ???
Sorry for the random post but a friend of mine has spent a few thousand on his stroker project, plus the procharger kit and now believes it wont fit in his 91 IROC, due to the steering gear box.
I was wondering if anyone knows if an IROC can be converted to rack and pinion for his application??
Could he use another style procharger bracket??
Or are there any other options??
I am just trying to help him out, since he's so close.
Thanks again for any info, links, relative forums, anything...

it will be easier to clock, locate, new bracket, diff. serpentine drive, or all of the above than to go with rack and pinion.procharger has a few sbc brackets
but in theory the lt1 setup can be made to work correctly, although the steering box on 3rd gens is quite large.

Sorry nemeSS, I didnt understand the first part of your post. lol
Would it be possible to swap in a smaller steering box? Or is that not really an option either??
Ill tell him to look into another bracket from procharger.
Bizzz... Im sorry, Im not too familiar with the car, it might be a 90 iroc, it might be a 91 z28, iroc is just the way Id define the body style lol.
Thanks for the help guys,

There aren't a lot of steering options for 3rd gens if he is wanting to keep power steering. Have him check out thirdgen.org and see what steering options there really are.
I'm not sure but why couldn't he use the bracketry ATI makes for the 3rd gen kits?

Ok, So I talked to procharger and the tech said the irocs (88 89) whatever lol shared the same sub frame as the newer 93 97 style. If this is true then he can just swap in a newer k member with rack n pinion...
Now the question is,... was that guy right??
Do they share the same k member??
Thanks again guys for the help
