Crank Hub Bolt
So I was going to bolt on the hub tonight, but the bolt will not thread. The last 2 threads on the bolt are a little damaged, I'm guessing from using it to pull the hub off, but I figured it would still try to thread into the crank.
The crank is a Callies Dragonslayer unit, would the threads be different?

Threads will be the same. They're the same for all later model SBC's and LTx's. If it was mine, I'd replace that bolt, and then carefully run a thread chaser down the snout of your crank...

As mentioned above, be sure to clean and chase the thread.
Try to find an automotive grade (black) bolt to replace the old one.
You want something you can torque and that won't rust.
I've picked them up at the local hardware store.
Don't try to run without one; even though the hub is pressed in, it will come loose.
(ask me how I know)

The color has absolutely NOTHING to do with the "grade" of the bolt. Doesnt mean its "automotive grade" or anything.
Period.
OP, what you need is a grade 8, 7/16-20 bolt that is 2 1/4 inches long. A little shorter, or longer wont work.
Go to Fastenal and ask them for that size in a grade 9, if they dont have it they can order it.
(Dont get confused with the grade terminology, "grade 9" just has a little higher tensile strength and has a fewer better design features that make them a maintenance grade fastener, which is a step above OEM.
If you dont have any luck that way SS RRR has some extra stock ones, or I can send you one at worst. (I sell fasteners for a living).

I got it on last night. Found out the hub wasn't even on all the way and that the underdrive pulley wasn't lined up correctly, that is why the bolt wouldn't start right.
Took the underdrive off, got the hub seated all the way and the bolt went right in. With lots of locktite of course. LOL
