ok is it possible to remove it with the engine in the car?

and i know ill have to cut a hole for the heater lines which is fine, i dont see why it cant be mounted on the outside if the bolt pattern is the same.

Merv, I like your idea of a delete panel that retains the heat function. Did you happen to do a write up of it?

I didn't really have a write-up..it's a simple process.

1. Cut box flush with Firewall.
2. Cut passage for Blower Motor to blow into the Heater Core(you will see what I mean when you get in there..)
3. Make a template out of cardboard, punch out necessary holes.
4. Cut Panel and bolt it up.

ok i looked at the ac unit, it looks like it has to come out from under the dashboard.
any input on how to remove it would be nice. do i have to remove the entire dash board to get this crap out?

merv, did you take yours out from under the dash or ho did you do it?

Yea everything I took off came out from the engine bay side. I'm referring to cutting the box off of the fire wall. Cut it flush and make the panel. You can see that in one of my pics, I used a dremel.

I had also just removed mine from out of the engine bay originally and retained the heater. This summer i caught the weight reduction bug and pulled it all out. The inner section can easily be removed from the engine bay with the engine, headers and computer still installed. Just be careful when you are cutting not to cut anything of importance. It sucks figuring out what you did and having to soldier/put on heat shrink wrap on your engine harness.

Good luck on the mod. It is worth the effort when you see how clean you engine bay is. Here is mine now that it is almost all done(valve cover is off so i could move the header to get the bolt loose for the lower control arms):

Looks like you gain a lot of room, especially to get to that last spark plug.

i would leave it in if i were you ..lets say down the road you decide to sell
your car . deletion of the ac hurts the resale value .also the window defogger
uses the ac compressor to clear the fog off the inside glass when driving in
rain .

Ya you gain a lot more room. I makes it easier to do anything on that side.

Well when it is already broke anyways it would sell as a non working a/c to begin with. Second once the cars are moded as much as mine or others that have any other work done to their cars besides exhaust and CAI it has gone to a different crowd of people when it does come time to sell these cars. Most of the time a person that is looking into getting a car for the strip they really dont car about if it has a/c or not. At least i dont. I have grown up with 60's and 70's cars so a/c isnt that important to me and i live in southeast texas where a/c is really needed. So not everyone looks at it as a resell pro/con

Mine was fcked so as you can see I made it better. You can't really beat 13 min plug changes..and that's hot at the track..

haha i hear ya on that one. My car would not run with the a/c compressor still on there. Well it would but you wouldnt want to be anywhere s around it with all the noise it was making. Not to mention it was cutting my trans lines due to the clutch shattering on it.
