changed the opti yesterday and it's running for now. i had a high rpm miss that i fought with for about 6 months, thought it was the opti, turned out to be the icm. this time it was the opti. have went through 4 opti's and every time it started missing, popping, and backfireing then just died and would not start. no spark at all. hope this helps

did you check fuel pressure, plugs and wires? sounds like it could be the opti though. (ignition control module) located right next to the coil bolted to the same plate.

You guys might consider the ICM relocation mod. It involves spacing the ICM away from the left side head so it can run cooler. Most use some washer to do this. Shoebox has a right up on it on his site.

Mmmmhmmmm, me too.

Also did the ICM modification. Plenty of space, and saw a 30 degree drop in temperature using an IR thermometer.

I had a MSD Blaster Coil, spaced the stock 100k+ ICM, and used a stock OPTI that had about 40k on it, was replaced in '01..I bought my car in '05..and had no issues going to 6500.

After tossing up the idea of a dynaspark, msd opti, LTCC, LSX computer conversion, and all the other options...I decided to just save a lot of money and hassle and just get another genuine OEM opti base with an MSD cap & rotor like I had before. This deep into it money was not an issue, just reliability and simpleness.

I have heard great things about the dynaspark, but the OEM piece is hard to beat for the price. Along with the more robust MSD cap/rotor I feel that it is plenty for most builds.

If I ever waste my current opti by popping the rotor, I am going to try the MSD cap and rotor.

I spaced my icm off of the head, seems to be running a little better, all it takes is a couple of washers...when it sits on the head and you do not have any dielectric grease on the plate, the icm will heat up and cause problems. I have only spun my car to about 6200, and everything works well.
