Default 1st dyno...

So I dynoed my car for the 1st time and I have a question...but here's the results.

251 whp
342 wtq

why is my torque so high comparied to the hp? All I have is a CAI, catback and PCMforless tune btw...I'll post the sheet once I get it scanned. Thanks for any help.

Auto's always give low numbers on dyno's, but your right where you should be. Numbers look good! if you get long tubes it will get closer to 300hp

My dyno operators have always told me that Automatics never show accurate torque numbers and in my experience that is very true.

stealth What does your formula put down to run an impressive 11.8?

At the time of that run I put down ~359rwhp/370rwtq with the stall unlocked. I later put it on another dyno where it did 352/370 before further tuning and 362/390 after some changes all with the stall unlocked. As you can see the torque seems a tad high sort of proving my point. With the stall locked ~383rwhp. Dyno numbers with autos are so complex!

Nice man. What do you mean by "stall unlocked?" I am getting the LE2 package this winter with the Yank SS 3600 stall so I just wanna learn learn learn!

For example if your crusing down the street at 25mph your stall will be unlocked. The rpm's will be high and if you mash the gas it will move out. The stall will remain unlocked until the car shifts into 4th at say 43mph or so. Once it shifts into 4th it just cruises like 100% stock and when locked it is more effiecient (more power and mpg's.) On the dyno the car will make the runs unlocked because you run the an auto in 3rd gear. Remember 1st-3rd gear the stall is unlocked. Now, if the tuner can lock the torque converter on the dyno then you will see much higher numbers to the tune of 15-20rwhp.

Kinda hard to understand until you drive a stalled auto but in essence the converter is unlocked when driving until it "locks up" when it goes into 4th gear.

I use to run an SS3600 with my LE2 setup and I think you would like it alot. Very tight converter that is alot of fun on the street.

Around town I get about 11-12 on average. I am by no means easy on it but if I go on a long cruise I get 15-16. I would imagine it would get close to 18-20 on highway I just am never able to cruise around with the stall locked because my car doesn't shift into 4th until 53mph.

Yes, you feel the car go into 4th like you normally would but rpm's drop significantly (because rpm's are high with a large stalls when unlocked) and it just starts cruising like it's 100% stock.
