Default 4:30's M6

Couple questions:

Who runs 4:30's, how do you like them on the street and at the track?

Car is not a DD but does take fairly long trips sometimes, for which I can slow down a couple MPH compared to the 4:10's I have now.

Who makes 4:30's for the stock 10 bolt? I'm not seeing them?

Will they be too much gear for my mods and the stock short?

I plan on trapping 115ish on the bottle this coming spring with the current jets. Then upping the jets to 200 and maybe knock on the door of a 120 trap?

What rpm would that put me through the traps. Have the limiter set at 6400 right now and dont really want to go any higher.

I am on 26 x 11.50 . 16 ET streets. I plan on upgrading to drag wheels though and will have to move to a 15" tire for that. I can go up to 27" or 28" if need be but then not sure if I'll gain anything by moving to 4:30s

We just make a lot less power up here and I'm looking for that little "edge" if you guys are running 4:10's at SL the 4:30's up here will still put down less tq in every situation at this altitude.

I just dont want to make it a joke to drive on the street. Traction in 1st and 2nd on shitty street tires is already hard enough to come by.

Thanks for any input!

I ran a 4.30 my 9 incher when I had a 6 speed. Running about 65-70 it turns 2000ish in high gear, However, My car trapped around 120 ish as well and I had to step up to a 28 inch tall tire to keep from having to shift into 5th(which you defffinatly do NOT want to do) because it ran out of gear. If your planning on trapping120 your fine with 4.10s

I love my 4.30s. I drive my car on the highway alot, they make 6th gear more usable IMO.

Keep in mind that I have an S60. To my knowledge, no one make 4.30s for a 10-bolt.

if you go 4.30's what i would invest in for the street is also a 28" tall tire. This will knock the overall ratio down to around what a 4.10 would be with a 26" tall tire but your contact patch is better, more side wall, and the rpms will be similar on the freeway.

I myself am looking into those as the car has def been less DD and recently got a Drag bar on it so for me it does not need to be a corner carver.

My car is heavy enough to need the 4.30's but when this car gets the bottle, 4.30's most likely will be too much unless I put a 28" tall ET Drag on there.

i have 4.30s on my car and a few things i can tell you are:

you will need 27" tall tires at the track and you wont hit 120mph with a 6400 rpm limiter, youll need to up it to 6500.

its AMAZING on the street even with a 26" tire.

if you put them in a 10 bolt they will break

I would agree. That small of ring size and the contact patch has to be hidiously small.

When my spool goes in, it will be a heavy contender. over 4.10's

I have an S60 as well and I plan to go with 4.30's over the 3.73's that are in it now and I'm going to run the M&H 325X50x17 drag radial which is 28" tall on my 17x11 ZR1 wheels next Spring.
Hey Collin 91- Which brand 4.30s are you running and did you have to change carriers? I have the Detriot Tru Trac posi and 3.73s now. I was looking at "Yukon Gear" they have some Dana 60 4.30s.

i run the 4.30's. i want to knock it down a notch because this power level is just too much for anything below 3rd gear.

...I think you may have emailed me about this subject a while back....

Anyways, I do have a tru-trac, but I'm unsure as to what series carrier it is because I ordered my S60 with the 4.30's already in it. So whatever brand Strange's "standard" gear set is, thats what I have.

you should consider getting some real rims to put a tire on

^^^This man speaks the truth.

I've tried running 17"s with a tall drag radial. Just doesn't work with a M6 car. Plus that combo is a TON of rotating weight.

I've now switched to a 15" wheel w/ ET street bias-ply DOT slicks for the track. So now I'm selling my 17" wheels and plan to replace them with a set of 18" wheels w/ street tires for street duty.

You need to add Value to the post where as simply correcting someone does not do that.

*Example

Just so you know...

Its 4.30:1 not 4:30

But adding that rear gear will help torque multiplication greatly but with the stock GM 7.5" rear, it may not last.

I run a 4.56 with a 26" tire on the street. For me it is fine because of the traffic around my area I rarely see over 75mph and even then it's for short periods of time. With you being in that wide open space a 4.30 would be fine on a 26" tire for the street. As someone mentioned, depending on the power curve and mph output through the traps a 27" tire may be the best bet. You can always get a good estimate here:
http://www.f-body.org/gears/
For best 1/4mi performance and depending on what tire used you also must take tire growth into consideration (that includes ET Streets or any bias-ply tire).

I think we both know that doing so would be obvious my only point was to inform him of his mistake, I was just trying to save bandwidth etc, but he has to go and be a dick.
