Default Bad day at track...

I was at the PSCA Finals in Fontana on Saturday doing hits all day on the car in two separate classes. The car was doing pretty well, while still getting it dialed in, and on the sixth run I dump the clutch and snap! A 3.5" IEDL aluminum drive shaft becomes a donation to the metal yard recycle center. Luckily I had installed a safety loop a long time ago and it saved a ton of damage.

Cliffs: if you race on MT/Hoosier/GY ET type tires or slicks, install a $50 metal DS safety loop.

I'm going to a Denny's chromoly steel unit after this.

Picture on one of the runs...street twin clutch is taking some practice to get right.

I have not removed it yet, but it is shredded right where the tube meets the joint right behind the transmission tail shaft.

That is a clean looking car.

Any pictures of the damage to the driveshaft? (I love seeing twisted driveshafts)

Driveshaft loops are a must, I can't believe I waited so long to get one.

BTW, sharp looking SS!

Stories like these made me throw a safety loop on mine. Sorry to hear but at least you played it safe. Good luck!

x2? Good thing you had that safety loop. They don't prevent all of the damage from what I've seen, but enough to make it MORE than worth the small investment and 15 minutes of install time.

Not too shabby, the mph shows you are making HP but you need to work on getting the 60'-330' times down and the et will drop drastically. What gear are you running b/c those M6 cars need 4.30-4.56 or lower to leave hard. You also need a little wheel slippage so u don't break so many parts. LOL Goodluck Clint

Man I did all that damage w/ my ST except the d.s. but it's a steel one, Denny's NR to be exact. Are you running a 12 bolt and what gear? what rpm did you lunch it, I mean launch at?

Thanks Clint - I appreciate the advice from you. I'm already thinking about a 4.56 gear with an LS1 PCM conversion so I can spin the motor a bit higher. A little give at the line will surely make my transmission live a little longer too.
