Few questions I just bought a 93' lt1 z28. It runs fine then the service engine light turns on and will go away. I took a look under the hood and noticed that it has a home made intake using the stock elbow and the air pump is not connected. Can this be part of my problem. It also seems like it has a small surge and it will shut off at times when im at a dead stop. I will be checking fuel pressure tomorrow and seeing if it drops. Any info will be helpful
I'm pretty sure having the air pump disconnected will throw the SES. Here is a link that shows how to jump the test port (A to B) on 93's to get the number of each code that is setting off the light, then you have to look up what the corresponding code is to the number. Google LT1 DTC codes.

The fuel gauge should/does do that, just not as bad as you're saying it is. I've had two camaros and both dipped slightly on braking and raised on acceleration.
Also do you have catalytic converters? If the owner before you took them out it may be causing the intermittent SES light.

The fuel gauge is an unfortunate side-effect of the fuel tank/float design. The tank has less volume at the bottom than at the top, so when the fuel level is lower it sloshes around a bit more, making the needle do what you are saying.
And specifically, what code number are you reading? "PCM not communicating well" isn't exactly something we can go on.

No cat on a 93 car will not set a code. Also, as long as your fuse is good for the air pump it will not set a light, plugged in or not. You have to flash the codes and let us know what you find.

looks like i found a good size problem. i was changing the spark plugs and two of them were really snug in there. after finally getting them out i looked at the threads with a mirror and seems that they were slightly stripped and never went all the way in. they were less than half way in the spark plug hole. i chased on of the holes and will do the other in the morning. hopefully i found why she had a miss and ran sluggish at times

well the car runs smooth now but at times the ses light turns on and runs sluggish. then when i go to pull over the car will shut off. i scanned it yesterday and the code is pcm communication failure and my vss is out. i have been researching and i have learned that my car loves its grounds. they all seem to be fine i even cleaned a few up but it still happens. any input will be helpful
