Default valve covers wont fit with new top end

ok guys another delima. Im trying to finish up my motor and was gonna throw on the VCs just to cover up the rockers and keep dirt and junk out. So i got a new set of comp 1.6 rockers NSA, with summit hardened guideplates and trickflow springs that came with the cam i bought of a guy running it in another 95 lt1. And the covers wont fit, there modded for 1.6 rrs and i had SA on there before and they worked fine. i got pictures maybe someone can help me out or tell me which VCs i need to buy to make this work.

Hey:

Mark them edges with a brite paint, and trim as needed as you may have cut them back a little more, than what you have, or just buy so proforms as they are inexpensive and fit real good.

Looks like you need to trim more, They will wit with more clearancing. I grinded the supports flush on the edge of the vc and towards the center bolt support.

Here's a link the info is half way down the page.

Hey:

I would hold off on the Cantons as mine leaked pretty bad, till I sold them. You need to trim more off. Mark the inside edges of the valve covers drip trays, with a brite paint and cut them back till they don't touch anymore. Also do a search on the Cantons as I know I'm not only one that had trouble with them on here. The proforms for the F body have the notch for the alternator, and look pretty good Advanced Induction sells them as well as Jegs and Summit.

thanks for the advice and what not but i just bought a set of cantons i found for a decent price, do they use the same gasket? if they have problems ill toss em and mod my stockers but i always liked the lookes of them and this was just more of a reason to go for it.

Cantons tend to leak very badly in the corners with rubber gaskets because they stretch
and cut the corner short (poor gasket retainer design on Canton's part)
If you use formed cork gaskets, they seal just fine.

But I agree, the OP's issue is likely just a matter of a little additional clearancing.

I used some permatex to attach the rubber gasket to the cantons first, and then attached the gasket and cover together as one piece onto the head.

Worked perfect and didn't leak a drop on a daily driver.

They could def use a better way of retaining the gasket though, those little tabs don't cut it.

Proform make very nice centerbolt valve covers that don't require clearancing or get a set of LT4 valve covers if you can find them.

im hearing that the cork is **** for these covers and to use the rubber gasket, put a dab of RVT on the back side and let it dry on the cover before installing then install as one unit and they wont leak, i have stock ported heads and they say they seal just fine on them
