Default ok, the power steering/alt relocation bracket list thread!

ok, for all the budget builders and do-it-yourselfers that cant afford one of those beatiful kit that our sponsors like speed inc. has made for us, after all of the research and reading ive done ive put together a list of parts that is budget friendly and realatively easy to do. so here goes, your input and suggestions are welcome.

for the alternator bracket ive found that the madman bracket is best suited if you want to keep the stock alternator. although it isnt hte only one out there for us, there is the "allen groove" bracket, and the Street and performance kit, this one isnt cheap but its the simplest way to go about it, and you can buy one used form members on here or other LTX forums.
no pulley needed since the alternator will be ran off of the balancer.
http://www.madmanandcoracing.com/sho...aspx?itemid=14

and for the power steering (the complicated one) heres what ive concluded.

get a gm type 2 power steering pump off a late model S10, or blazer, that is clockwise rotation (standard), for use on the driver side. (you can also use a factory LSX pump from what ive read) this is only if you want the reservoir mounted on top of the pump, you can also just get a pump and use a remote reservoir if you please

s10 pump

and since it is a "type 2" pump, realativley any type 2 pump bracket should work. like these:

"zoops"
http://www.zoops.com/product-listing.asp?ID=7&offset=24

or this one from "canton racing products"
http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...ion&key=75-284

then a power steering and single groove crank pully of your choice:
i just use zoops as a reference, you can use cheap pullys from summit or jegs, or use billet specialties or march performance or whatever.
http://www.zoops.com/product-listing.asp?ID=4

measure for a belt and i beleive your good to go!

any questions or comments or other suggestions are welcomed..enjoy.

alternator on pass side down low with madman bracket ran off the balancer, and power steering on driver side mouned using one of the above brackets, ran off of a single groove pully mounted on the balancer, measure for belt, run PS lines and done.

This is a good write up. I was trying to figure how the heck to relocate the ps for a while now...and I had seen on a episode of extreme 4x4 where the host took a power steering pump and mounted it backwards on the block with a bracket. I was considering doing that until this good bit of info!

as long as its a serpentine pully it should work, and all this info is for a stock alt, but u can use a different one i suppose.

i was thing first gen motors...sorry i never took a good hard look at a lt1..it dont even look like the water pumps are spun by a pulley from the crappy pics i jus looked at as a refrence..trick would be finding a belt that short for using a low alt mount like i posted..maybe a harleys primerie belt would work..

yea there is no water pump pully since its cam driven, and as far as pullys go, you can use a v-belt or serpentine as long as the pullys accept the sam style belt, and the belt isnt hard to get, im sure you could order one through madmad, or measure for one and go to autozone and find it.

why not leave the pump where it is and drop the alternator down where the compressor went? there is an idler pulley up top left and you don't have to worry about setting tension. much easier imo, cheap too

well that would work for everyone else that wanna use the stock bracket, but im going twin turbo in a year or two with This Kit and if you look closely the top idler pully on the stock bracket will interfere with the pass side turbo, and its easier to move the accessories around instead of the turbo/header ect..

i didnt mention it in this thread particularly, but this low mount setup seems to be what most are doing, along with modding the factory bracket..

would there be any weight saving with the low mount kit from madman over modding the stock bracket for low mount
