I'm considering the 315/40/17 for my stock chrome ws6 wheels. Need to hook a bit but I drive the car A LOT during the good weather in Iowa. Seems like I constantly take the car out just to drive it.. I love it!

When I pull the trigger, drag wheels and M/T's will be the replacement.

The BFG set i had just seemed too hard for a good gripping drag radial for the street. And when i would heat them up, they would chunk up. Id give another set a try if someone gave them to me but from my experience with what i had, i wouldnt buy another set. Making the switch to MT ET Street Radials made all the difference for me. My friend has a set of Nitto DR's on his Mustang and he hates them. The tread feels too smooth and arent very soft. But thats what makes them last a long time. They do have alot of surface area though for added grip.

OP, if you're not spraying out of the hole, which I highly doubt you would be, if you're still on the 10-bolt rear, I'd go for the Nittos. My old full bolt-on LT1, with 3.90's and an M6, never had any traction problems whatsoever on 315/35/17 or my 335/30/18 Nittos. I'd actually have too much traction and bog from 3-3.5k launches on them. A hotcam car isn't going to make a whole lot more power than a full bolt-on car, so you should be perfectly fine. I've heard plenty of people with 400-500rwhp cars saying that they don't have much, if any traction problems with the Nittos either. So, if you plan on driving them on the street, it's the best choice of any of them.

I have 275/50/15 Nittos and they hook like crap, so much wheel hop too. I air them down to no less than 16 psi. Here is what they did:

there's really no point to putting a 315 on yur stock rim at all other than looks. a 9 inch wide rim can only use about 275mm of the tread width anyway, so 315's would just be a waste of money-(you'll notice only about 3/4ths of it will wear correctly).

I'd say if you keep the stocker ws6 rims, I'd go with a 275/40/17 DR, otherwise upgrade to a 11 inch wide rim if you really need that extra grip from a 315.

I would agree with the exception of Nittos. They just run small. They will look thinner than your front tires if you buy them the same size.

True, but even a 275/40/17 Nitto NT555r is more than adequate for the power he has. He doesn't NEED a 315, it won't offer any performance gains and many speculate (including the tire manf's) it may actually hurt performance or be unsafe, so why spend the extra money?

All he should need is a 275. Hell, on GM high Tech they have a 94(95 maybe?) 355 LT1 formula runnin low 12's and poppin wheelies on the stock 16 size drag raidals without traction issues.

It'll all come down between 275 Nittos or ET Street Radials. All depends on money. Might get new rims down the line.

Btw, you are from northeast Iowa? We need to hit up Newton or Cedar Falls when the weather gets nice

I disagree. I know when we were at the 35th show at Bowling Green back in '01, there was a little burnout contest in the parking lot of the hotel.

My Dad had 315 BFG Comp TA's on the stock Comp TA wheels and another had 275 BFG Comp TA's on his stock Comp TA wheels. They both did a little burnout and it was very evident that the 315's put down a bigger patch comparing them side by side.

Is the best way to run those tires, no. But to say that they would put down the same contact patch is not true.

All Nitto's run small. The WS6 is the same way, skinny back tires

Yup, up in Waverly (15 minutes north of Cedar Falls)
me and my buddy's tear up CF/waterloo pretty much on weekly basis over the summer...lmao...we usually got a pretty decent crew haha.

several 4th gen Fbody's along with the bikes, mustangs, trucks, and ricers that tag along! haha

but back to the tires....lmao

hoosier's drag radials look like straight up slicks! id be scared to drive with those ******* on the road! lol plus if I remember right they're kinda spendy!
I've just stuck with Nitto's cuz they last long for a DR, they're cheap, and I've never had traction problems at the track with them...

I hate to say it but your not right! You broke your studs because you got good grip! and didnt have enough power to spin the tires. The tires gripped and it was to much torque so the wheel studs snaped. So that videos shows Nittos can hook!
I know many guys that run the Nitto 555r1 on that same track and do very well. - Driver preparations sorry bro
