Weren't you already banned from here once due to non sponsorship? Also, why don't other manufacturers seem to have the fitment issue from car to car that you have?

A vacuum helps get the sand out.

I decided to go ahead and make some room for the #8 primary so I don't have to pull the entire exhaust system and starter off again. I now have about 1/2" of clearance between the #8 primary and the frame rail. With the header bolted in, I used a marker and traced the outside edges of the primary onto the frame rail. I then pulled the header back out and used a heat gun and a 2.5 lb sledge hammer to work the metal to the contour of the primary. I think the end result turned out pretty good and I'm sure this will get me the little bit of extra room I needed. I also put the steering coupler back in and took some pics for you guys that were curious about that. Click on any of the images for a larger version.

Beating the frame with the hammer left some nice pits in the metal. I used a sanding disc on a rotary tool to smooth the metal back out.

Using a straight edge to show the amount of clearance. Maybe around 1/4" closer to the top of the frame rail.

Probably around 1/2" in the middle of the frame rail. this area needed the most work.

Primered and re-painted.

which canton are you using? i have a 242 and the version 1 LPP's sitting in boxes in storage with the car and have always wondered if there would be interference between the 2. i was also hoping that even if they do fit that they're not too close. hot primaries right next to an oil pan means oil in the pan is getting heated instead of cooling.

I've got the 242 also.

With this pan and header combo, you'll have to remove the oil level sensor. I understand it's a pretty common problem with aftermarket pans and headers.

Very nice work dude. I love your attention to detail !!

So I guess I wont need to use the ls1 Steering shaft with this batch of headers. Looks like there is enough room with the stock LT1 unit.

Thanks man! Yeah, I think there's plenty of room for the LT1 coupler.

I suppose all headers are going to have issues with clearance at some point during install

Just bolted mine on the motor and they fit horribly. Real big issues the collectors are angled way up towards the floor and y-pipe isn't going on. I'm going back out to take pics in a few. Hopefully I can get through to him tomorrow or something I thought I'd have the thing together and running tonight.

Default LPP Gen1 0r Gen2?

I have just fitted a set of LPP LT headers to my '95 Trans Am and they look great!

The motor sits on a BMR K-member and all went in easy as pie... Until we came across aproblem with the steering coupler. My mechanical "guru" says the primary (#1?) will foul the coupler. Now my question is "which version of the LPP LTs do I have"? They clearly have LPP badges on them and I purchased them in 2008 (don't ask!).

Unfortunately I only have the one (poor quality) photo of the driver's side of the motor, but you can see the drive for the steering rack.

If I have to do some "modifications" with a millimetric adjusting tool (AKA "Big Hammer") how effective is that going to be?

Yours Aye,

Toni

Default Thanks!

Many thanks for the response.

My problem now is how to adapt the headers or the steering coupling to get "around" the problem!

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, most with the gen 1 LPP's who had steering shaft fitment issues had to either loosen the entire steering column and shift it to the driver side more or clearance the primary with a hammer. In some cases both.

Default Thanks again!

Thanks for the response again.

I am sure that when I actually spoke to Karl at the time of purchase he assured me there were no clearance issues and that he had designed the headers to fit a Camero. I even had some installed photos!

However, I salute him for the efforts he afforded me and I never experienced the same lack of customer support others have reported on this and other forums!

I might even consider buying a GenII set when they become available again (Spring this year?).

In the meantime.... Where did I put that big 'ammer!!
