Lt4 Hot Cam
hey guys. i have a 1995 lt1 firebird formula with the t56 6speed. its bone stock except for a magnaflow exhaust. i just bought an lt4 hot cam from my friend. what all do i need to buy to go along with it??? i know i need hardened push rods and propably lifters. what kind of lifters should i get and do i need new valve springs and rocker arms??? will it run ok on the stock tune or does the car need to be tuned after the cam install??

You are going to need valvesprings, locks, retainers, and seats. You can reuse your stock rocker arms but you're going to be giving up HP by staying with the stock 1.5 rockers. Upgrading to full roller 1.6s is a good idea.
If it were me though, I'd sell it off again and pick up something a little more worthwhile. Then again, you're on stock manifolds so you're fairly restricted in what type of cam to run.
It will run on the stock tune, but it won't run. Make sense?

With better cam selection you can do much better than that cam only, I put down 339/345 with a Lunati cam, remarkably similar to the Hot cam but with a little more lift and a different profile, on stock shortblock/heads... but for 75 bucks and more concerned with sound than performance the Hot Cam is a good fit that performs well, sounds healthy, and does not require the same amount of supporting mods

well i think i have decided to go ahead and get the long tube headers first. i heard they can be a pain in the *** to install on the Lt1. My friend was gona sell me the Lt4 hot cam for $75 but after pricing out the 1.6 rr's, push rods. springs, and lifters i came to a total of $550 just in extra parts. i can buy the complete Lt4 hotcam from Summit for $650 so I may as well go that route. What do you guys think?

Definitely replace the rockers if you have the cash. 1.6 Comp Magnums are a good choice for the money I think. The stock stamped parts are more like 1.45 than 1.5 so you'd get a pretty good increase there. Also the higher ratio gets the valve off the seat faster so you get a little more bottom too I think and they also increase the cam duration slightly.
