only 425? guess the only lt1's you've seen were bolt on cars.

basicallly i want about 500rwhp reliable, is this going to be possible with the LT1. The 5.0 stock block is pushing it's max limit at about 500rwhp and runs on borrowed time.

This has probably been covered a hundred times.

Any hp goal can be reliable if you do it right. Look at the lt1 dyno thread and see what people are putting down with what mods to get a good idea.

I was kidding.....

easy 500 RWHP+ setup is a basic heads and cam 355.... forged pistons, h-beam rods, stock crank..... you can do 2 bolt mains or 4 bolt if you wanna spend a bit more...

standard hydro roller setup. ported intake, 58mm throttle body, long tube headers... just your basic run of the mill 355 LT1.....

good tune it would make around 400-425 RWHP with a 6 speed all day....

Put a 150 shot on it and you can safely make 550-575 RWHP like it ain't even trying...

Clean WS6's are rare nowadays around here. Thats a small reason why I still have mine. She'll be with me until I die.

the stock crank can take 575rwhp? with nitrous? so it will live with a blower also?

I'm building a forged 383 with LE2's (LE3?) and a procharger F1A...will easily make 600+ RWHP. Nothing wrong with the LT1. I prefer it over LS1 because
1) It's an iron block (stronger)....
2) Everyone's nuts over LS1's and suddenly LT1 becomes the black sheep
3) LT1's are a challenge. You actually have to have BRAINS to build a good, solid, powerful LT1 setup. You can't just come home from high school, grab your mom's gold card, and buy some bolt-ons and be #1.

It's not that LT1's are bad engines, LS1's are just superior in every way possible with a much larger aftermarket.

i wouldnt say every way possible. heavier chassis, standard flow cooling, weak aluminum block. the only REAL advantages are 15* heads (i think) factory, and aftermarket blocks for them.

Yes the stock crank can take 575 RWHP. I would recommend 2 bolt studded if doing so at a minimum. 4 bolt mains if you have cash.

600RWHP is generally the cutoff for my personally for a forged crank. RPM kills cranks quicker than power does. And generally a 575 RWHP 355 with a hydro roller will only rev to like 6500 RPMS or so before it dies. 6500 to a LT1 stock crank aint' ****...

I agree the head options are the main reason they out perform LT1s that and the ECMs RPM ability

The LS motors have quite a serious bottom end as well. If you've ever seen the crossbolted mains on those things they are quite a work of art....

There's nothing that out of this world about them... The major reason they can make major power and will generally outperform an LT motor is because:

head options (15 and 11 degree heads vs our maxed out 21* or 215cc raised runner heads)

If you've ever seen a flow sheet of a head from one of the TOP GUNS of the LS motor world (like Paul Major, Tom Kempf, Fereday) you would be amazed. Their heads make our heads look like civil war era cannonballs with less technology....

availability of aftermarket blocks (none for an LT1)

Having the ability to get a world LS, LSX, or Dart block as a foundation allows you to build HUGE power and do it reliably. If we had ANY aftermarket iron blocks in an LTx casting you would see alot more Rick Intrau like setups. Big single turbo's, big twin turbo's, guys like me and Tony Shep and Mike Jakes, Taner spraying way more than the 300-400 shots we're spraying right now. I have friends with similar displacement Dart SBC's like my engine that are spraying well into the 500hp range. If I trusted a stock block with over 1000RWHP on nitrous (which is an assload of torque instantaneously) I would do it in a heartbeat. That is the reason ppl have left the LT platform. When you max it out at 409 ci (and have a paper thin cylinder bore useless for a power adder) you cannot compete at the highest levels of heads up door-car racing.

Give me a 4.125 bore LTx bowtie block and I will convert 18* All Pro heads to fit it with a supervictor and a dry belt and front mount dist..... Slap a 98mm or 106mm turbo on the front and it WILL go 7.50..... all day errey day
