He probably got in a hurry or said "eh, it's good enough." Once you have seen the drawings of how the wear pattern should and should not be it's pretty easy.

Agreed.
There are many options for respectable rotating assemblies for under 2K.
Dyno-Flo has some good options with forged parts and H beams, etc, and I know of some others from the good sponsors here on this site.

The real question is, who is doing the work?
Now that can be the expensive part!
