With your car, since it is all stock you need to do 2 things. Upgrade engine, and upgrade suspension/chassis.

CAI, Headers, Exhaust, maybe a cam, springs, rockers and pushrods for the engine to start...

Subframs Connectors, LCA's, LCA Relocations, Panhard rod, and springs for chassis/suspension.

What is your budget and are you ONLY wanting to beat that one guy and your done or do you have bigger plans?

Lol, "fast" is a very broad word in this case, as well as "crazy money"

I have no idea what to tell and keep it in your price range so I am going to give a few examples.

Headers/CAI/Exhaust would be a "start" but with an A4 w/ 2.73's and he has an M6 w/ 3.73's he has the advantage by a bit until you start changing your stall, gears, and do more engine work.

Cam, rockers/pushrods/springs, 52 or 58mm TB, upgraded heads, etc your starting to move up in the price ranges...Then you really need to start thinking about traction and stalls and etc

ok thanks thats what my friends say to start with.. my only problem was that 2.73 gears i have.. i know i want to aim to the direction of cam. but then i need at least a 3,200 stall in order to have a cam.

Coated Pacesetter long tube headers and Y pipe, 3" catback of your choice, cold air intake (K&N, Moroso, etc), 3.73 gears, cam and valvetrain, custom tuned pcm for the gears and cam. SFC's,lca's & relocation brackets, 2800 stall, drag radials that should get you in the low 13s or high 12s.

Get a stall (3200-3600), 6spd rear and some dragradials and you would take his the way it sets. Go from deadstop at the track. Then work on headers, exhaust, air intake and suspension mods. Oh by the way my buddy has been 7.70s in the 1/8th with boltons and a good stall with dragradials theres guys that have been faster but thats moving for boltons. I think you will be faster and more consistent at the track and thats where it counts streetracing now days is bad bust that butt in front of all his friends at the track to see! lol

Do boltons first before you worry about heads or cam.

Heads do bolton but not considered as a bolton look at stickies at top of page for boltons. Also you really need to do boltons ie headers, intake, stall, gears, and other things mentioned before you do heads and cam. Theres alot of things you can do to make the car fast even free things just search and use the stickies at top page to start with.
