Default Lid conversion w/ ram air

Thought i would post some pics and see what you guys think so far. This is the Chrs1313 ram air box. Simliar to how most people are doing the lid conversion on here expect that i used the filter basket and attached the ram air box to the inside of that. And its all under the stock hood!!

Where di you get that shiney box contraption that the filter sits in. I like that! Mine just has the open filter at the bottom and I do not use the stock platic peice that sits all the way around it. I actually had to trim my lid a little bit to fit under my hood and I'm using the 3" SS hood from VFN

There are several different ram air boxs that you can get. This one is made by a member on here (chrs1313).

It looks real nice but judging by the pics, it looks like the air flow to the radiator is compromised quite a bit. It very well could just be the angle of the pic, none the less, good work.

The ls1 guys having been using these for awhile with no issues at all. With no ac condenser in place there is more room than it looks between the ram air box and the radiator. If you search around in the genIII external section there is a ton of threads talking about ram air setups that guys are running, i have not seen anyone that has had any cooling issues. Mine isnt done just yet but will be soon so we shall see..

looks good

We sell and have installed many Chrs1313 RA kits with no cooling issues. There is still plenty of room between the radiator the the RA for air to flow. This kit shown is for non A/C cars which we sell, but Chrs1313 can make a A/C kit which is narrower.

I need to get working on my car to get my lid/ra kit figured out.

He makes one for use with the ac still in place, its just smaller. You would have to contact him directly for one of those. I believe that speedinc only sells the non ac version.

Wow that fits alot better than i though it would for a LT1, you are really going to like those gains going to a lid conversion and ram air...might need a tune adjustment will all that flow ...

glad it worked out for you, and using the filter base is a great idea, on the ls1s we use the lid assembly but this looks to work out great for the lt1 crowd...also i like the sealing you did on it...very nice

as for the cooling i have never had any problems on my car or any friends that have the ram air on it...mine runs at 180 all day long, have a 160 stat, and that is with a 24K GVW trans cooler infront of the radiator too...

Once the condensor is out of the way i think it helps cool the car alot better...

and for the icing on the cake i dont even have the black bottom radiator air deflector on my car, so no air is even being forced up there...i think you should be fine but keep us updated on the track times and cooling...

CONGRATS, nice build

Very nice. I can't understand know why more LTx guys don't do that, I would be all over that setup if my car didn't come with factory Ram Air. Should see some nice gains!

Do you have to cut away at the front support of hte car to get these in, or do these work without doing that?

not sure on the lt1s but on the ls1s only thing that's needs trimming is the hood latch support, which is no biggie...

Thanks Chris. It was fairly easly once i figured out how i wanted everything to be. What helped is how good the quality is of this RA. Its very light and real rigid.
I used this metal tape stuff (not sure where to get it, i acquired it from work) thats really sticky and worked perfect for sealing the box up on both the outside and inside.
The only thing i want to change is the ls1 radiator support. I am not liking the factory one on there being all cut up, so i think that i will try and make one out of aluminum. Should be fairly easy as the RA doesnt attach to it at all.

Can you post up pics to show the clearance between the radiator and the RA piece.

Did you have to chop up your stock hood to get this to fit properly?
