Default Help with the LS1 Intake Swap!

I have been digging through the search for a while and cant find what I need!

I DO NOT want to cut my support to fit the lid however I AM willing to trim the hood but I WANT TO KEEP THE STOCK HOOD.

I have seen several posts talking about the stock hood working with the Chris1919 kit from Speedinc without slaughtering that support, all they had to do was modify the base, and trim the hood. The only problem is, I cant find any pics of how they trimmed the hood or where. I have an "idea" but I would prefer to do this SLIGHTLY educated at the least...

Anyone have pics of this?? I would REALLY appreciate it!

Heres a write-up, but the did cut the core support up a little.

Good luck with it, I wouldn't mind doing that mod myself.

That is the only reason I didnt use his writeup because he did cut the support...I am not 100% sure if that makes a difference or not. I was hoping some of these guys that have done it the same way I am going to had some pics of the hood....

I couldn't see it making that much of a difference strength wise. When I get out of school and finally finish my car its going to get a custom aluminum radiator, and I will be cutting the support then. IMO its worth it to gain the extra space from changing the radiator set-up, but not worth it for doing a lid. Hopefully merv or someone chimes in with how they did it.

I am not worried about the "strength" of the car. I am big on collector value, show quality, etc. The hood trimming can be hidded or "niced up" or the stock hood can be replaced easily if worse comes to worse, but if I for some reason go to a different intake on the car or something, that chunk of radiator support is gone forever and would be blantantly obvious and would devalue my car. I would prefer not to do it if there is a way to avoid it and the Chris 1313 kit is set up that way I just need to trim the hood......I just need to know WHERE to trim it lol.

Why not just do something like what Larry or Colin have done and run a tube down in front of the radiator and still accomplish the same overall goal? JMO.

I honestly dont like the way that looks. No offense meant or anything man, and I really do appreciate the help.

Like I said I am all about show quality as well. I want it to be fast yes, but look damn good too, and I LOVE the way the LS1 Intake with the SLP lid looks on the LT1! I just dont wanna hack the car up in the process.

I was not going to do this swap until I found out there was a way to do it without cutting the support. Now I want it lmao

Honestly if you do it clean enough I wouldn't think it would hurt the value..but that's up to you..

Good luck without cutting the support..I have yet to see another way.

IIRC it's some tube and a filter mounted down in front of the radiator. You can PM Colin91Z or LS1 Speed and ask them how they did it, they both have very similar setups.

don't you have an SS? why not just keep the SS intake? i know its not as good as the WS6 LT1 ram air but is it really worth cutting up a real SS for a lid?

No write-ups that I know of. But a search will turn up some decent info, it's been dicussed many times. Here's a thread with decent info...https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...fo-needed.html

I don't think it can be done w/o cuttin the brace if you're keepin the stock hood. a cowl hood maybe, stock SS hood is too flat in front.
