depends...if you do that you are potentially buying other peoples problems, but if it is a low mileage LT1, in good condition it could be. I would do a complete gasket refresh and have it torn down and inspected though for sure

i just read through this whole thread. granted sounds like the guy is an idiot.. But what is with all the people saying that you miss stuff and that its sooo hard to rebuild an engine? ive done quite a few.. its not that hard. just take your time. be patient and catalog everything. most important be clean.. Op you do need to be more concious of what your doing it seems like your just ripping **** off the car..

speed, were not necessarily saying it is hard...if you have experience and know what your doing and are prepared its not that bad at all.......but for someone who is inexperienced, has not done proper research, does not have the proper working space and does not have the proper parts it can be a very complicated process if he tries to do it himself. There are ALOT of little things he could mess up or miss that could be VITAL.
He has a few other posts on here as well from losing bolts to putting oil directly in his cylinder to remedy a noise he heard. He just needs to do the proper research, and take advice from people who know.

If I were in your shoes I am dead serious, I would already have the arrangments made for Joe to rebuild my engine! He is seriously hooking you up here, cut your losses, save some heartache, get it running good, and go from there. That is the best advice I can give you right now!

So you're seriously asking if you should rebuild your motor or buy one from a junk yard now? Then you still need to take it apart and make sure it's ok then you still might have to rebuild that one. So you would be in the price of the rebuild plus $700. Just use what you have
