Default How do I find out?

I would like to know what gears I have in my car. Is there a good way to tell than be taking them out and counting them? Is there a website where I can run the VIN or something and find out?

If you know the gears are stock you can get the codes off the door or glovebox or some mess like that and go to shoebox's site: www.shbox.com

Or you can jack up the back (use jackstands) mark the drive shaft and a tire, spin the tire and see how many times the driveshaft turns per one revolution of the tire. If the driveshaft spins 3.42 (roughly 3 and a half) times per one revolution of the tire then you have 3.42 gears.
If you have the stock gears and the car came stock w/ a manual most likely you have 3.42 gears.

Drive shaft turns to tire rotation turns. I forget which is which but put a piece of tap on the tire and the drive shaft. turn the tire one turn and count the drive shaft rotations. which ever spins faster you need to count the amount of turns it will do to one full turn of the other. Ya beat me to it ss lol just make sure both tires are turning at the same exact speed

If its factory gears, with original 10 bolt that came with the car.

GU2 = 2.72
GU5 = 3.23
GU6 = 3.42 (All 6 speed's 94+)

Get the car off the ground. Place a mark on the tire and a mark on the drive shaft. Rotate the tire one complete revolution while counting the rotations of the drive shaft. The number of rotations of the driveshaft will approximate the rear end ratio. Enjoy.
