Default LT1 T56 removal wtf!

so i pulled my motor out of my 97 ss and had it sitting on the ground with a dolley under the trans. so i decide to start breaking down the motor and to remove the t56. welllllllllllllll at first i took off the bellhousing bolts and tryed to slide it off. nope didnt work. then unbolted the trans from the bellhousing tryed to slide it offnope. saw that the clutch fork was around the throwout bearing so this is what was holding it on there right?how the hell do you get that thing off? i losend the bolt in the middle and finally it slide off. when i got the trans off this half moon spring thing came off where the hell does that thing go

The shift fork just slides right on and off, there is no need to remove the bolt that holds it in place. As for the half moon shaped spring, it goes behind the shift fork if I remember right. I haven't had mine out in a while though. I can't find any pictures either.

all you needed to do was slide the clutch fork away from the throwout bearing, and it just slides apart. can you put up a photo of the spring you are referring to? may help us determine where it came from.

you have to take off the slave cylinder and the slide the fork off. I think the half moon clip goes on the fork... I need to see a pic of your to see what is going on... I can stop by my dads shop and look at the one I have. I'll snap some pics of it during lunch if it has that half moon clip.

If you had slid the transmission out of the bellhousing at all before trying to take the fork off, it would have pinched the fork on the throwout bearing lip and not let it come out.

Yeah make sure the slave is off first then slide everything back together so the arm is not binding. The just yank on it it'll slide right off

Wasent able to get a pic today maybe I can tomorrow. That fork did not want to move at all I realized it needed to be slid out cause it was starting to bend the lip on the throw out bearing. This is my first time removing a t56 as you can tell

Look at your fork, is the metal clip missing? I think this is the "spring" you are talking about maybe, The clip that normally retains the fork when you slide it on the Tbolt.
I state this as I never remember seeing any kind of actual spring when I've had the motor/trans apart.

Yeah that is supposed to be on the fork. the bolt with the piece of metal shaped like a t should be on the transmission, you need that metal piece back on the fork so when you slide it in it clicks and is retained.

There is a half moon clip with the ends that fold out that clips onto the throwout bearing that keeps it fastened to the fingers of the pressure plate.
