Default Stock heads with LS7 lifters guys (come in!)

I am nearing the completion of my cam swap and since the LS7 lifters have a shallower bowl on them I am pretty sure I will need a slightly shorter Pushrod. Also, wouldn't having guideplates make the pushrod size change to? I want to see if someone has a similar setup to see what size pushrod they have. The checking tool I have wont fit with the Guideplates on. I am running a Custom LE cam with .592" lift, Pro mag 1.6 RR's, LS7 lifters, Extreme .660" dual springs and Trickflow guideplates.

Do this. Take your guideplate off and then insert the pushrod checker in and re torque plate back on. Check things out and remove guideplate and measure.

The Ls7 lifter "guts" sit deeper in the lifter body by about .040"-.050" or so. I would think you would need a slightly longer pushrod.

Alright, I installed a stock pushrod to check and it looks pretty centered. Maybe a TINY bit towards the exhaust. What do you guys think?

I beat this horse to death a few years ago. Smallest roller tip sweep is what you want ASSUMING it does not go to far to the exhaust side.

I found that having minimum sweep and being centered was impossible with SBC geometry. IIRC, I have a sweep of around .060" with it being slightly toward the exhaust (a bit more than in the pic above). Centered up, the sweep was closer to .090".

BTW, use a dry erase marker for reading the pattern rather than the Sharpie. Works much better.

Measure the sweep. I will bet money by going one length longer, the sweep will decrease.

So you haven't fired it up yet? Did you check for PR length or just order stock length?

I am using 1.6 magnum rollers and LS7 lifters. I have 7.200 length rods from Trickflow. My understanding is that the only difference is that the lifters are .100 deeper.

I am running LS7 lifters, crane 10308 spring kit, stock length hardened comp pushrods, trickflow guideplates, and comp pro mag 1.6 NSA rockers. This summer makes 3 years on this set-up, I daily drive the car, have put between 30k-40k miles on it, and spin to 6800, no problems. I adjust my rockers about every 10k miles. I am also running the thinner Impala head gaskets on my car.

i was doing a search on this last night and it seems to be some run a 7.15 pr or the stock 7.20

the ls7 lifters dampner is .05 taller the our stock lifters from what i read.

from my take is some who i think run the stock head gasket (.051 compressed)need to move down to the 7.15pr and when you run the impala(.026) or a shim gasket (.015) you can get away with the stock 7.2pr's..

no have not fired her up yet due to problems getiing correct valve seals.

anyhow, when i checked the pr length i used a stock push rod fisrt just to see if was even close, and it came out pretty darn close, im not sure if it could have got closer.

there are alot of guys running the stock lenth pr's with this set up.
