Default ls1 lid on lt1 car

So I bought the slp lid and what I thought was a stock ls1 radiator support. I have the 4" glasstek cowl hood and I made the cuts to make it fit. Now I went to mount everything up and I think I have some sort of aftermarket radiator support and it is sitting up too high, I also trimmed the f*ck out of it to try and make it sit lower and it will close without the lid on but it seems to be off by just a little bit

Does anyone know someone who would be able to make a radiator support for the lid on an lt1 car? I am not skilled enough to go to home depot and buy the materials necessary.

It's possible to make it fit (you clearly know that) but I don't know if someone makes a specific radiator support for it. I remember seeing one guy do it and it was a total hack job.

I dont know what is going on, I trimmed your hood so it actually has more clearence than I have. And my radiator support isnt trimmed much either. Try finding another support maybe? or stop over sometime and compare yours to mine again and see if you are missing something? It may be something as simple as adjusting your hood latch.

^^ i feel like i hacked the **** outta the support and it still just isn't clearing and I don't know why. I was able to get it closed without the lid on. Mike, did you re-drill the holes for the support or do they bolt in where the stock one does?

No, I just used the two outer holes that are on the support. They should line right up. Other than some minor trimming, it was a direct bolt on

sounds like you picked up a WS6 rad support instead of a regular one - they sit too tall.

^^^ THAT'S IT!! motherf*cker, I wish I would have known that when I bought the one I have. I looked up who I bought it from and sure **** it was from a ws6. I adjusted the hood hinge and it closes but it looks retarded because the hood isn't flush.

Yea, not sure whose writeup you used if you used one at all, but I made sure to note that the WS6 support wont work on just about any LT1 application without cutting it up.

you basically have two options - find a regular one, or you can cut up the WS6 support completely and set the lid down into the core support. but id recommend getting the regular height support and not dealing with that headache.

yeah, the ws6 ones are getting up there in price since gm stopped making them. Though if you had a ram air hood it works out great. I would hold onto it and see if anyone with a 93-97 bird with a ram air hood would want it, they're a great alternative to the factory ram air box. I bet with all the room you've made, when you put a regular base on there it'll just be a bolt in on and close the hood.

Hey guys - I don't mean to usurp this thread but I plan on installing a '98-'02 WS6 lower lid & rad support very shortly in my '95 Z28. I have an Ultra Z hood with the raised single inlet opening right at the front of the hood. I'm confident the raised WS6 lid will fit under there.

My question for Black94Z28 or any other guys who have done this mod (either with stock lid or raised WS6 lid) is do the '98-'02 rad supports accomodate the '93-'97 radiators as well as the fans?

I'm actually thinking about getting a B-Cool replacement rad but still have my stock '95 fan assembly I assumed I'd just bolt up. Were the fans in the '98+ cars any different? IF yes, could I just swap in a new fan assmbly from an LS1 car without any PCM problems, etc.

Thanks

are you guys talking about an lt1 ws6 radiator support? The plastic airbox base thing, that latches over the radiator?

Just a dumb question here... after all the cutting and endless fit-up, is the LS lid on an LT worth a lot more than aftermarket LT CAIs?

I swapped mine at the track within 15 min 3 runs each
Moroso cai vs. SLP lid 1.8 mph and 2 tenths
so i will stand by the "its a worth while mod" for sure especially the $4$

There have been many others to attempt to discredit this mod however they are also the ones that have not done it!
