Default Pull heads with cam?

I was just wondering if anyone has swapped the cam without pulling the heads, did you later regret not pulling them because of a blown head gasket? Please give me the pros and cons because I dont want to take long on my cam swap.

The heads don't need to come off for a cam swap.

Cons of not pulling heads:
1. you are stuck with stock Static compression
2. you have to change valve springs anyway. Easier to do on bench.

Pros of not pulling heads:
1. You don't have to deal with hassle of pulling the heads

IMO the time and energy need to pull the heads, clean them up, and install new gaskets is not worth the ~3% gain in overall that you could get by bumping up the static compression by running a thinner head gasket and/or milling the heads. Of course you could always get a valve job done to and pick up a few more ponnies, but I would save all that for when you have the funds to send out the heads to be ported.

i didnt pull the heads when I swapped in my cc503.
my car has 103k miles on it, and I drag race it and raise hell in it on a regular basis without any problems.

now... if you were installing headers at the same time as swapping cams, I would most definately pull the heads. it's only 36 more bolts.

in addition to compression change like stated before it is alot easier to change the springs on the bench, plus having fresh gaskets and arp head bolt is always nice, and it is really not much more work after getting the cam out

with that being said, you absolutely do not need to pull the heads to do the cam swap

No reason to pull them unless you run a cam that needs the little compression bump...
