The only reason why i have a 52mm is because i found it for 65 bux in the FS section, i then dumped mine for 35, so it cost me $30. If you find something like i did do it, otherwise do other stuff that will have more of an impact.
what would you recommend he spend it on instead, he has almost all bolt ons, and he plans to do a head cam swap in the near future - at which point he will no doubt need one, even according to your own post, why not do it now to pick up 5 to 10 while on his way to getting all supporting mods for a head cam swap

With some bolt-on a stock tb is sufficient, when you have a bored out intake or larger intake along with h/c a 58tb is probably a good idea.

the general rule of thumb ive always followed is a 52 will work well on a bolt on up to a built 355. anything above a 383 i would recommend a 58 or a monoblade.

You really can't say that either. A 383 turning 5500 rpm would not require as much TB as one turning 7500 rpm. This is N/A. Forced induction is a whole different story.

Gizmo, do you think you would pick up any power with a larger TB?

I really doubt it. I recently watched a 3300 lb LT1 F-Body run ten teens with a stock TB (N/A). My junk is at least three tenths slower at 3100 lbs, so I feel that I am not close yet. This is comparing my Stocker to an LT1 Super Stocker. My A/F ratio is spot on. So, the TB is not a restriction. My 24 lb injectors aren't maxed either, but that is a whole other argument!

Just because your A/F is spot on doesn't mean it's not a restriction, does it? I mean, you could probably close one of the wholes completely OFF and still get the A/F right!

I know you log your runs. What's your MAP at high rpms?

This is my take and if I am getting some of my terms for discussion here screwed up, I am sure someone will straighten me out.

I determined with my setup that I had lesser KPA drop at 6KRPM with the 58mm vs the 52mm TB. I determined this by datalogging on the same day nearly back to back with the two TB's and logging the MAP readings at WOT.

For example if BAR is 100KPA and the 52mm MAP reading was 95KPA at 6K RPM, then the the 58mm showed 96KPA. The closer you can keep your MAP at WOT to BAR, the more power you make.

There were very minor gains but probably not enough to justify the expense of the 58mm. I did get the Summit TB and sold my ported 52mm to cover much of the cost.

I did the same testing and found that the K&N FIPK did better by 1 KPA than the old Moroso CAI. So combined with the K&N and the 58mm I saw 2KPA less frop at WOT. I have read and I dont know if its true that every 1KPA of drop at WOT you see is 2% drop in HP. Maybe someone can confirm it or call BS.
