You're having a hard time because there's no such thing as an LT4 block.

i do believe that there is a LT4 block. It is a factory 4-bolt main block where the LT1 has only a 2 bolt.

My little motor is a factory 4 bolt main block.

Unless they put a 4 bolt main in some cars rather than others.

The block is the same casting, the Vette and some warranty motors were machined for 4-bolt. BUT if you have enough power to warrant 4-bolt you need aftermarket caps, so paying a premium for a 4-bolt factory block is a bit pointless when you will have to remachine it for the aftermarket caps.

2-bolt will hold more than most will make, More than someone who thinks it is a differnt block will manage to make anyway.

That is directed at the OP, but IIRC all corvette LT1 blocks were 4 bolt mains.

An LT4 block does NOT exist. It was an LT1 block with a 4-bolt main that used the LT4 components.

The LT4 was an LT1 (4 bolt, as said above) with different heads, intake, timing, ect. and pulled a few more RPM's...

I am pretty sure it only came in the 6 speed Corvette iirc. I think the autos had the same 2 bolt mains that we have.

It came in 100 very special edition 1997 SS's too for about a 45K price tag. I drove one in 97 and it felt like a stock LS1.

all lt1 corvettes came with the 4-bolt main block. the lt4 was offered in 96 in the corvette grand sports. It was also the standard engine in the 1996 corvettes that had manual transmissions. the lt4 is only a topend package really...the blocks are the same. some fbodies have been known to be factory freaks and have a 4-bolt block from the factory. if you "4-bolt" mains, then you are better off taking a 2-bolt block and having splayed 4-bolt maincaps added anyways.

All Vette LT1s are 4bolt mains.....however, in 1996 all LT4 Corvettes are manual and the automatics came with the 4 bolt main LT1.
