any advice for headers for my 1995 z28? looking for best bang for my buck. was looking hard at pacesetter ceramic long tubes for bout $450. any one know anything better for around that price or where to look other then summit or jegs?

 

Pacesetters aren't bad for the price but i have not heard good things about their coating. I paid about $500 for my coated jet hots they are about 5 years old and still clean up like new. You can also look into a set of stainless headers from ebay. Also figure in doing motor mounts while there and depending on age of them plugs and wires too

 

worst thing about ceramic coating, learned from experience, is that the lifetime warranty that most give with their coatings is that a lot of them want you to have them installed by a mechanic. What they do not tell you is that if any oil is on there when you crank it up and it gets hot it will cause the coating to crack and flake off. They then say that this is a installation error and is not covered by the lifetime warranty...sorry for your bad luck. Maybe it was just company X but i have heard of this in more than one instance.
Like stated before I also have jet hot coated hookers and i love them. Still look the same and no signs, besides user installation error lol and scrape makers. Either that or a set of ebay clone LPP stainless steel headers.

 

ok ill look into that. how hard is installing headers in that tight compartment? do i need to drop the engine?

 

Honestly the headers are a pain in the *** with a lt1. You don't need to drop the motor but depending on what headers you get you might have to lift the passenger side.

 

im lookin at ebay and the headers are cheap but nothing i herd of before. they are stainless steel and asking $270 for one set and $324 for another. just dont know if they are dependable.

 

Just search on here for ebay headers and you'll find a lot of people running the stainless ones

I have pacesetter coated LT's on my TA. Coating has held up really nice for me so far. Holds a really nice shine. As far as installation, not too hard. I recommend you have a buddy help you as it makes the process a ton easier(One person under the car, other up top etc...). I managed to squeeze my passenger side in from the top, the drivers side has no choice but to go in through the bottom. LT1 longtube installation is a pain but use patience. Mine took me two nights, about 2 hours a night after i got off work. And I did a header per night. With some patience and bruised knuckles, you'll have a sweet exhaust

 

ebay hearders... stainless, stepped, cheap, yet good.

 

My ceramic Pacesetters had no fitment issues. Both headers slipped in through the top with the valve covers off and fit perfect. However after two years of being installed, the area around the collectors are pretty rusty.

 

Also have pacesetter lt's. Been on the car for years, coating still looks very good up top. Under the car where water gets on them there is some rust but nothing that affects the performance or strength. All in all i would recommend them. Not sure how bad install is they were on the car when i bought it.

I would go with some flavor of stainless steel headers. I guess some of the cheaper options can be had for the same price as Pacesetters, or less.

 

I see no reason to spend 1000 bucks on a name brand header. It's pipe. Get some cheap stainless though, it'll look pretty in 10 years, not like mild steel, even if coated, will rust eventually.
