I ran a set of GTP LT1 heads and the GTP #5 cam on a stock shortblock and a full weight car into the high 11's ....also ran the heads on a 396cid Shortblock with a 222/228 .544/.538 112lsa, this setup made 422whp/447wtq and ran mid-low 11's at 116-118 in a full weight car.

Chris B's old 96 Z28 had some GTP LT4s with a CC306, trapped 121 with the stock short block. This was in the early '00s.

I think Chris Marsh's heads off his '93 were Craig's guinea pigs? I saw him run several deep 11 second passes at 118 to 120mph on the stock short block. Somewhere between '96 and '97.

And now people are happy trapping 115mph in full weight h/c lt1's for some reason.

Yeah any decent ported LT1 heads/CC306 or similar, with all the supporting boltons should trap 120+mph depeding on weather, tune, traction, gearing etc... My car ran 11.20@120.8mph nothing speacial, old 355"LT1 with a CC306/ LE heads, 4-5yrs ago also thru an auto to boot. I don't see why people make a big deal on one particular piece of a combination like heads and cams. If I listened to everyone I would swap cams every other week. Every combo needs to be fine tuned, tweaked and setup properly to work right. I bet if I gave 5 people each a set of AI heads/cam to put on a stock shortblock you would have one that smokes them and that would be the one person who understands how to setup the rest of the car to go along with the added HP. Look at some higher Hp heads/cam cars that trap 120mph but barely runs 11's. I would rather run 116-118mph and run 11.20-30's b/c that is alot quicker et wise. Not trying to hurt anyones feelings just an example of more HP doesn't always mean quicker ET's. I have a friend with a heads/cam LS1 and he has been 11.80's@120mph but mostly runs 11.90-12.20's in normal weather. He put down more rwhp then I used to on the dyno and I ran almost 1 second quicker then he did, 11.00's@123mph with my 350" heads/cam LT1. My car is a little lighter 3,450lbs< 3550lbs, also he has a 6speed so he dyno'ed more but ran alot slower. Later Clint

That could easily be done back then with AFR heads and CC305 or a LPE setup with a 211/219 cam.

Point being is Craig was the first to make notable quick and fast LT1's. DFW/Houstan f-bodys were the talk of all car forums in the 90's. Everyone else is following a trail that has already been traveled.

Not everyone's car is setup for drag racing. Hell I haven't been to the drag strip in over 2 years. I personally thing going WOT for 11 seconds in a straight line is boring as hell, especially with an auto where all you do is push the gas pedal to the floor. Road racing on the other hand is a different story.

You have never driven an auto that had enough power to run 10's on motor or 9's with some spray. Once you start launching these cars with 1.3-1.4 60' s with both wheels in the air, that is the feeling I like.

Or, nines on motor. I don't have time to read all four pages of this, but can tell you his heads are as good as you find. If someone else has said this, sorry.

I had GTP stage 2 LT4 heads and was very happy with them. 3,750lb car at that time 17in nitto drag radials small converter 2800 stall ran 12.2s that was like 10 years ago.

Good post! It's nice to see a constructive LT1-head thread for once

Craig definitely knows LT1/LT4 heads. He reworked a set of butchered heads for me in the past taking my car from trapping 113mph to 121mph with NO other changes other than re-tuning the car for the reworked heads.

GTP is good stuff!
