its pretty straight forward. remove the bumper cover and unbolt it. Once you have the cover off you'll see.

It's very straight forward you shouldn't have any problems with it. You will pretty much see how it detaches as you go, and it should take you less than an hour or so, good luck and report back if you need any help.

Whats it worth? weight wise...VS the protection it offers from collisions or chassis integrity ....thoughts?
i cut my last one and inserted an intercooler

I'm interested in how it affects the chassis rigidity as well.

I weighed mine and it came to just under 20lbs. I believe it's designed for 5 or 10mph collisions, maybe someone can chime in on that because I can't remember exactly. It's a risk you take but you can control what you hit or don't hit. That's why many people who take out the front support leave the rear in like I did because you can't control other people from rear ending you. There is a company that makes a lighter and stronger support that fits our cars but it's pretty expensive.

I doubt it has any affect. I didn't notice a change and by looking at it I can't imagine that it adds any rigidity when in place, may be the equivalent of removing a strut tower brace off a car. I'm not sure what material the Camaro ones are made of but the Firebird and Trans Am ones are basically large chunks of styrofoam with a metal mount on the back.

I thought you were talking about the square metal bumper piece that the fog lights attach to. It that the same thing?

Here's a quick pic I grabbed off google. It is a Camaro support, I can't find one from a Bird but it is essentially the same thing just styrofoam. It does tie those two frame rails together (or whatever you call in with a unibody car). The metal is thin and it really doesn't feel all that sturdy so I can't picture it making a noticible difference in chassis rigidity. Like I said in my above post, it's probaly equivalent to removing a strut tower brace on a car, IMO.

The grey piece is the Camaro support.

Everyone that has removed there support, does your bumper sag weather it be at high speed or low?
My other question is does that also mean no more fog light?

I have my bumper cover off sanding it down going to have it repainted, thought maybe this might be good time to do mine.

mine never saged either on my old 4th nore this one..What i did do was make some labels though that went in front of the head lights that said Do Not Lean On sort of like the old 60s super stockers with the aluminum fronts had..last thing i wanted was some jack *** to lean up on the bumper and then rip it off..I had it on the back bumper also..

I was able to take my crash support off with the bumper still on. The top bolts were a little tricky, but I got it done. Then a couple weeks later, I had to pull the bumper off anyways, but it can be done.
