Has a single person posted with actual info along the lines that the OP asked? I didn't see it.

That's the problem with these online sights. Everybody posts what they think/read. Nobody really posts what they've done. There's no valuable usable info in this thread.

If you can afford LE2 heads, why not pony up the extra money for a matching cam? That would be the best bang for your buck.

im not goin to lie, i think it would be really cool to put ported heads on a stock lt1. i think it would make the car very efficent with some 1.7 rr to add a couple degrees of duration and more lift. this would be awsome with a small shot of nitrous and i think it would be a rediculous sleeper! i say go for it and then later you can throw a custom cam in that thing. also you can knock some money off the price of those heads if you have him put some crane springs on them. i think they will be around $1100 or $1150. that will give you the availabiility to run say a 240/248 .568 lift cam later down the road. i see 30hp+ out of these with rockers and a tune if you get them milled to 11.2 to 1 compression ratio. just my .02 cents but i say go for it!
my vote says go for it!

Rockers don't add duration... only lift...

I thought about doing exactly what you're talking about doing. Never did it, but I'd say its certainly worth trying. 20ish whp I'd bet. Even more power when you cam it.

Good post:

The duration or time the valve is in motion from seat to seat does not change. The valve starts to move and stops moving at the same time as with a lower rocker ratio. But it does move faster and farther relative to cam lift or lifter motion. The effect on the valve is like adding 3+- deg duration. The cam specs don't change. The valve timing doesn't change. The valve motion does change. But it's not enough to measure in terms of HP - just from a geometrical perspective.

Adding duration w/larger rockers was a myth started by carb guys back in the day....
All you are doing is adding lift, positioning the tip closer to the center of the valve tip, generally adding .031-.033 thousandths to the lift of the cam

Back when i was runnig a Joe Oeton 224/230 cam only setup that ran 12.00's113mph, pulled the heads, sent them to Lloyd got them back with the same stock valves. The car ran 11.61@117mph! That was proof enough for me. JMO

sorry if i misinformed, my post was not ment as saying that the rockers would add more total duration, but as i understand it the 1.7s will hold the valves open more at .050 lift so it would be adding 2degrees of duration a .050
sorry again if i was misinformed. this is just wat i was reffering too. i know that the valves close and open at the same time and in no way is like adding an aftermarket cam.

nnnnnNO. No duration. Only lift. It keeps it open more for a longer part of it's duration, but "duration" itself does not change at all.

What kalebm22 said is right. Advertised duration doesn't change. Duration at .050" DOES change, but a very trivial amount. Since the valve is opening FASTER, .050" is reached more quickly than with 1.6s (or 1.5s for that matter). Make sense?

It always made sense to me... The Cam itself doesn't change in duration but the duration a .050" changes. Thanks for clearing that myth up RamAir. I always knew this info, but did want to go back and fourth with people who don't know with there talking about...

From what I can see everyone is giving useful information but you. No one can tell exactly what kind of HP he would make with just heads. We can only give him a ballpark figure and help him get the most out of his setup.
