Default Difference between Corvette and LT4 Starter?

The LT4 Unit is part number 10455709, no one has it locally and seems hard to get. Any difference between The LT4 vette starter and the regular LT1 vette starter? Are they both gear reduction?

I cant remember what I put on my car, the LT4 or regular Vette starter.

My starter took a dump.

I kept eating up stock LT1 starters and was going to salvage yard buying them to replace instead of buying another new one to die on me. All of those eventual ate themselves more from heat I think off of collector placement on arizona speed and marine headers. I found a local place that rebuilds alternators and starters and they charged me $35 to rebuild it. 7 years later it still works perfect, might be something to think about if you have any in your area.
These LT1 and LT4 starters are dang expensive to purchase.

I know it's not a GM starter, but I used the Jegs ProTorque (formerly CVR) 555-10001 on mine. It's a bad-*** little starter and relatively inexpensive.

I believe all LT Corvettes used the same starter. I bought a Vette starter for my brother's Camaro and it was a nice gear reduction one. Totally different from the LT1 F body starter.

This is what it looks like. If this link doesn't work, just go to the Auto Zone web site and look up a starter for a 1994 Corvette.

I actually just installed an LT4 starter on my car this morning. It is a remanufactured unit with a lifetime warranty that I bought from Advance Auto's website for $118. You can get the remanufactured ones from both Autozone and Advance I have the part numbers if you are interested.

I just installed this same one last Thursday, had to clearance it a bit for the Canton pan, move the oil dipstick towards the block, and grind a tab off the top of it. It really is a good little starter thou. My stock one was getting its *** kicked.

Did you try adjusting it to clear everything? I rotated mine a few holes and it cleared the pan and the dipstick just fine.

It's definitely a great starter. Spins my 383 over with plenty of oompf.

Wow I guess I could have done that , the tab I took off was not used for anything, it does fit up there really tight to the block and isn't even close to the headers.

That's why they call it adjustable.

Autozone shows the same part# for both the regular Vette and the Grand Sport Vette (LT4) #17124, which was the exact same starter as the LT4 starter that I had previously gotten from Advance.
It is cheaper, is gear reduction, and smaller and lighter than the LT1 F-body starter. It clears my Canton 244-t pan and Hooker LT's with plenty of clearance. It starts up my 11.7 SCR/9.3 DCR engine with E85 in 45* weather very easily as well.

Is this unit lighter than the stock LT1 starter?

I think the lt4 and the f body starter weigh about the same. MAYBE 1lb difference.

BTW FWIW the cvr(jegs & summit ) and lt4 are both denso style starters with different adapter blocks.

I actually weighed both right after another and the LT4 starter weighs about a pound more than the LT1 starter.

So the Vette starter will bolt right up to the Camaro block and work just like the Camaro one? Mine just went out and I would like to get the Vette one because it is about 50 bucks cheaper.
