8501-bsbc Patriot gold extremes
Who's installed these and checked the height out of the box on stock heads? Is it actually correct? Did you need any shims to get it to the advertised 1.80"?

i'd agree ^^^ still check even on stock heads. and if you're heads have been worked, you won't know exactly what the installed height is.
i had anywhere from 1.805 up to 1.876 and there is no way I would have known that without the mic. It's relative quick once you get going, but I ended up needing to shim about 8 valves.

you can try that, not sure how you'd setup up the seat/retainer/keeper and hold it all together while you try to measure.
I have a pair of calipers from HF that I use to get close on some things, but not for valve height, you really need a specialty tool designed for this. I didn't feel like spending 50 on this either, but glad i did.

I would just but that micrometer from wicked for $25....that is a GREAT deal and it is exactly what you need and it will be accurate...
