Default Quick question - Installing Gauges

I'm going to be installing 3 gauges in my 93 camaro pretty soon. So far I have trans temp, oil pressure, and coolant temp. My question is :

When installing an aftermarket gauge that the car already has in the dash, do you have to have one or the other, or can both still function? Like when installing say, the coolant temp / oil pressure gauge.. will it install in the factory position, replacing the one on my dash?

Not sure what you're looking at, but what kind of aftermarket gauge would fit in the stock cluster?

Each gauge should include its own sending unit and wiring. They are stand-alone and you can retain your OEM gauges. You would have to mount them wherever you want. I suggest you do a search for some setups of aftermarket gauges.

I'm not talking about them taking the stock place in the cluster... I've got the 3 gauges in a triple pillar pod. I just didn't know if you could retain the stock cluster gauges AND have the aftermarket ones running. I thought the aftermarkets might install in the factory positions on the engine/radiator.

The coolant temp sensor will replace the stock sending unit on the drivers side head. The oil pressure can replace the stock one or be installed in a different port.

Okay that's what I was wondering. That kind of sucks you have to sacrifice the stock reading to hook up the gauge, but I guess it doesn't matter in the end.

why don't you get different gauges then? get like a vacuum, or exhaust, or oil temp.

Thanks for the help bigj. Can't wait to get these babies hooked up. They're the Glowshift black 7 color series. I've heard mixed reviews on them, but they look so sweet. And I bought all 3 with the triple pod for 75$ new off the classifieds

or trans temp (if you have automatic).

I believe there's a coolant temp sensor for the dash and one for the pcm. One on the driver's side head and one somewhere else (water pump?). You definitely don't want to delete the one for the pcm.

You can splice a coolant temp sensor pretty much anywhere you want. Drill/tap the water neck, heater hose, water pump, etc. You don't HAVE to lose the factory gauge.
