Default 383 oil pan/pump suggestions

looking for some suggestions on a new oil pump, pan , and pickup.

My new motor is a forged LT1 383 that will have around 9:1 compression and be SC. I need the above items for it and have no idea where to start looking. the car will have around 600hp+.

I used the Melling 10552 high volume/pressure pump, but only because my builder recommended it. You will probably use the 10554.

I also used the Canton 242T, and the Canton 20-023 with the 10552.

My builder sourced me a kit from Moroso.

Oil pan #20185 (5.5 Qt capacity - LT1 specific pan)
"Blueprinted" HV racing pump #22111 (I've heard someone claim this is in fact a Melling M55HV built for Moroso)
Pickup #24213 (specific for both above mentioned pumps)

I'll add that this PAN went right on without any modifications - my builder liked it b/c he said it came already notched/designed to fit the LT1 F-Body. I'm running 6 liters of oil in this thing (6.3 Qts) and have got outstanding oil pressure (right from the very first crank of the new motor). I can't help think back to my old 355 setup when my oil gauge would read between 0kpa and the 1/4 mark at idle while at operating temp. Only under WOT did the gauge SLOWLY reach the 3/4 mark and then the minute I would let off the gas the pressure would just dive. FYI on my gauge the top mark or 4/4 reads 550 kpa - not sure what the US gauges read... Anyways, with my new 383 and Moroso setup my engine at idle while at operating temperature just barely dips below the 1/2 gauge mark. The instant I touch the throttle (and I don't mean WOT or even a 1/3 jab, but just touching the gas) the oil pressure sticks right at the 3/4 mark for as long as I'm giving it the least bit of throttle. And if/when I open her up it just stays at the same 3/4 mark. Only when the car has come to a full stop and engine is back to idle will that gauge slowly come down just below the 1/2 mark.

I use the same pan. pump and pick up and it all fits and works well. I was scared of Canton because some of the older ones had leaking issues. The Moroso fits very nicely and no leaks...And its already clearanced for a stroker crank.

I have the Canton 244t pan with matching pickup and Melling Select oilpump on my new setup and no leaks or other problems at all.

My main engine has the moroso pan on it and my spare has a canton. I cant see any difference in performance between the two and niether one leaks a drop. The only reason I switched to the moroso was at the time the canton pans were on back order. As far as a pump I auctually use a Low Volume pump and cut the spring to get 45-50 psi at 7,000 w/ 0-20 Mobil one in it. These are drag race only engines if it were a street engine I would use a standard volume pump. Whatever you do buy a good name brand pump and if it comes with a paper in the box warning about performance use send it back and get something else. There were a bunch of pumps out there that were breaking due to a change in casting design/thickness. They still make those pumps but include a little paper in there warning not to use them in a performance application.

Those are the M155 series of pumps from Melling. The Melling Select series have the more robust casting and are a tad more expensive.
