Default Californians, did you know about these emission standards??

NEW SMOG RULES FOR CALIFORNIA
Under California's complicated new Smog Check II program. how your car or truck will be testred depends a lot on where you live. Parts of the state with the dirtiest air -- mostly the Sacramento, Central Valley, Los Angeles and San Diego areas -- will face the toughest tests on new equipment. For other parts of the state, including most of the Bay Area, there are also strict new rules and standards.
HOW REMOTE SMOG SENSING WORKS
Remote smog sensors are appearing along California roadsides to measure emissions from cars as they drive by. The entire process takes about three seconds.
(1) An infrared beam shot across the highway picks up the contents of a
car's exhaust. A calibrator and computer on the other side of the road screen and measure the emissions.
(2) At the same time, a camera snaps a pictire of the vehicle's license plate. The state uses that in information to find and notify the vehicle's owner if emissions are too high.
SMOG TESTS DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE

No wonder you all are over broke and the states coffers are beyond the red. WTF is the point in spending all that money on stupid **** like that. Maybe they should consider a mass transit system that works, or better yet tax people for being born.

We are just starting to see the "Smog Police" out in effect cracking down on cars with missing emissions parts and fining you $250 for each one missing. Its complete bullshit how yet we can drive 2-3hrs north of the city and they dont require emissions at all.

On paper the smog laws look bad but realistically if you now someone you pay $150-200 to smog it and you are good. As long as you arent an idiot and use some common sense about where and how you drive you will be fine

I know of a B-body SS 396 that got tagged with one of these. Needless to say long tubes with no CATS did not help his situation. Sick part was this remote tester was on a Fwy on-ramp where any car would typically be "accelerateing" so emission under those conditions is always high.

Just like the the picture taking at intersections and getting a ticket in the mail for going through ..lets say a longer yellow light. This is a $ revenue stream...it's all about the $ baby

OBD2 cars, like mine, not only have to go through the sniff test we get plugged in to confirm it passes "readiness" test (EGR, O2's, etc) so playing with PCM in those areas is a problem.

I have had to stay on the smog legal side of the fence and pass every time. Did I leave some HP on the table doing so..yes. I can drive through one of these test POS things and survive. YMMV

Gotta love good 'ol Iowa...worst thing that can happen here is a loud exhaust ticket, and even those are few and far between

Man what a shame, prime example of tax dollars being wasted. I was born out their, left at 6 months old and have no intentions of ever going back, also you know life does not have to be like that. Freedom is a great thing!

Its been a few years but i have seen these roadside testers in MO too. But since then we have gone to only 96 and later models having to be emissions tested, only a plug in scan.
