Default Opti to cam shaft

So I go to putting my motor back together and get my timing cover on and tightened and go to check out the opti and it doesn't go on the cam. I was sold a cam with the spline insert and I have the opti that slides into the cam. What can I do?

My car is a 95 an from what I've read that cam is for 93-94

buy a different opti, or change the cam

What cam did you go with? Most of them come with the deeper pilot hole. Without the pilot hole you cannot use a vented opti.

Wrong, and wrong.

You can change the dowel pin...

You need to measure the dowel pin length, IIRC it needs to be around .620 - .650, no longer.

If it is shorter than that, it only needs to be long enough to solidly engage into the cam sprocket and turn the opti.

If its not long enough, you can try pulling it out to the correct length. If that doesnt work or if the dowel becomes to loose, you can install / have installed a new dowel into the cam.

If you put a new one in, it could be too long (mine was from comp). Just grind it down to the correct lenghth..

What do you mean you were "sold a cam with the spline insert"?

That would be the cam gear that has the splines, not the cam itself.

As Joe stated, if the cam has a dowel at all, it can be made to work. If not then you have the wrong cam.

The opti slides into the cam and the three bolts in the end
Of the cam and the dowel pin spins the opti. I'm calling the company I got it from in the morning to see if they will swap it out.

It's the cc306

yes.. If your cam gear has splines then you have the wrong cam gear.. Get one for a 95-97..

my bad. i was thinking the spline on the opti would hit the cam.
