I always laugh at those who parrot how there is a "better cam" than the 306 when really, results of such are few and far between. It has been said a thousand times, if everything is taken into consideration then it will work out very well. That cam is responsible for getting many f-bodies into the mid to low 11's with a good combo whereas there have been far too many examples of those "better cam" setups which have performed far less than expected. A "better cam" is not going to make or break a certain setup if other major factors are not considered.

I think you should stay with the 306 and talk to Craig at GTP and flush this "better cam" crap down the terlet.

I've raced SEVERAL cars with the "machine shop ported heads, and 306 cam". It always hurts they're feelings when they get WALKED by a baby cam only 6 speed car.

2 different friends have that exact combo, they're both fat stinky turds.

I had the same experience with AI and couldnt be happier with my LE set up. Tell Lloyd exactly what you want from your car and he will spec out a cam for ya. Or **** Ill sell you my cam when my 383 gets back from Speedinc.

Well I'm looking for the best performing cam on the track that still is decently street able like I said I drive a total of 18 miles to work and back and when I want to go play around in it.

for S&G what the spec's on that cam???

Doesn't mean the cam and cam only is to blame.

I have to agree on a custom grind. With heads you just can't throw a cam unless you stick with stock heads. Cams that work well with stock heads have been proven. Its extremely important to match them. You have a good foundation. If you were strictly spray only id say go for it but for NA the 306 is good at sounding great/peak numbers. There are better options. The cam AC has for sale would be good with some LE2s.

Which cam is this? Is this the one where you ran 120mph or the one that you swapped out and advertised how it was going to make more power and did not? The one you ran at the shootout netting 12 second passes as ~114mph?
Just checking...

I mean what did all those f-bodys with a 306 cam do back in the 90's w/out the grace of LE?

I agree fully, it was probably 90% the heads. With good heads, and the correct stall, gear, tire combo the 306 will do work. Im just totally against people throwing them in stock short blocks.

Just got back from the machine shop.

its going to be a 355 with speed pro 11:1 forged pistons with stock rods with some ARP rod bolts along with the crank work and all balanced for 1250

He said he couldn't remember if it was a 4 bolt or 2 bolt but at my power level and with everything balanced I think i should be fine.

SSRRR the cam made more power then the old cam and holds on longer and drives better. The car was was not working right at the shootout, I could not get it to 60ft at all and it went 12.0 117 at the shootout the car is also 100#s heavier. I went 11.7 @ 118 in 1500+ DA next time at the track same set up and still not leaving good at all.

Ever since I put the comp 3way shocks and the 28" QTPs the car was leaving terrible. So I bought new shocks and went back to drag radials. Havent been back to the track but it feels 100% better on the street now. This vid shows how awful the car was leaving all last yr. Its not the cam.

I do have the other cam still but its not as drivable for a DD with the 108LSA so I didnt offer it

I didn't read back through this whole thread to make sure you have this covered, but I hope you're going to resize the rods with the new rod bolts. ??

I'm sure Joe at LPM will know all about that and he's going to be putting it together for me so that will be done.

But Joe also told me that the LE2 set up for the price is unbeatable and that I should do that instead of having his guy do it so looks like the LE2 set up is what its going to be.
