Dyno tune is more specific to your car but also cost's more and is more involved i.e. appointment required you must deliver your car and possibly leave it with the tuner A mail order can be very accurate if the right person does it and they have all the details on your setup. Most cars with mass produced parts will be just fine with a mail order tune. PCMforless is a good choice, so is Ed Wright at Fastchip.com.

You could try getting to know people in your area who do their own tuning (someone who has been doing their own for years with success). I had mine tuned by a local friend who uses C.A.T.S. (tuner cats?) for tuning and DataMaster for logging. He has been tuning his own car that he bracket races every weekend for abut 5 years now. Could my tune be better? IDK, but I'm happy with it. Mine is bolt-on so it's not like I need that much done besides deletes & speedometer correction. His car is ported heads/cam, 355, stall, gears, etc.
Also, he wouldn't let me pay him a dime.

I can't vouch for other shops, but I tried to do that with one major shop out here by me. They wouldn't do it because of liability. Kinda makes sense if you think about it.

no, it doesn't make sense. If they are competent tuners, they will not have a problem "learning" the software. I didn't know the Calmap software but it didn't make tuning the DFI any more difficult or time consuming than doing a stock pcm with tunercat. Only thing that was nicer was the much faster flash speed when making changes

Yes it does. Especially in this day and age. It gets tuned, owner blows it up, goes back to shop to claim liability and then deal with a possible law suit and/or a smear campaign when it's possible it wasn't their fault for the failure to begin with. I can easily see where they'd want to say **** that.
