How much did the harness cost you? Good luck with the build.

Thanks guys!! The harness was a little under 500 to my door plug n play all new wiring live tested and a warranty.. Guy steve knew exactly what I needed for the swap and uses oem grade wire.... Best of all I didn't have to buy an LS1 factory harness at all!!

Matt I read somewhere that you can replace the rod bolts with arp stuff without disturbing and clearances. May be worth a quick search and some piece of mind if it can be done.

Its too bad you had problems with the LT but I'm looking forward to seeing how your build turns out. I think eventually I'll go down the same route....thats a badass looking T/A you got there Matt!

Whats the swap costing you in parts so far? Also what is needed to swap the engine in?

I looked into the rod bolts and there is some that say you can change them out and others that say you can't without having the big end checked..
However from everything I have read after 2001 the rod bolts are very strong and will hold up no prob.. I'm still on the fence though..

Thanks for the compliment on the car!! I am fond of it myself.LOL

As for the new motor I have around 5K in it but I could have done it cheaper.. The fast intake is 900, throttle body 400, eps custom cam kit 850 etc... If you would like a full break down feel free to pm me and I can give you one..

As for swap parts you need...
Harness, pcm, k member, motor mounts, steering rack, steering shaft, ls1 car accesories, car intake and a couple other things... Adds up..lol

Are those flattop / no valve relief pistons going to be alright with the LS3 heads and that cam?

I have a stock LS2 long block (same type pistons) and a set of L92 heads that I am going to mate with an aftermarket cam (undecided) as well as a Victor intake, Holley HP 950, and a MSD controller.

I have heard so many conflicting things on valve to piston clearance with that piston type and LS3/L92 heads and their larger valves.

BTW, none of the above has anything to do with my LT1 SS. lol

I've been running a list like this too, the LS platform is in the future here too.

harness - 500-800 custom (250 ls1)
pcm -75-100
kmember (200/whole front end on ebay)
motor mounts (100)
steering rack/shaft (75-100)
accessories (300-500 depending on what you get)
car intake (100 ls to 900 fast etc...)

then pick your ls motor and get going

Well I called and talked to Geoff that owns EPS cam and he custom spec'd that cam for my LQ9/LS3 setup....so yes it should fit no problem

harness - 500-800 custom (250 ls1) got mine for $460
pcm -75-100 mine was $75
kmember (200/whole front end on ebay) Bought my used tubular wit a arms for $600
motor mounts (100) Went aluminum cnc from umi for $125
steering rack/shaft (75-100) paid $125
accessories (300-500 depending on what you get) mine was high because of the EWP
car intake (100 ls to 900 fast etc...) spent $725 for lsxr 102 intake $200 for NW 90mm throttle body and $25 stock ls3 rails

I can get a 98 SS automatic car that is almost a twin to my 97 SS (Sebring Silver, t-tops, leather) for $2,800.00. It has right at 50K miles on it. The only down sides are that the passenger quarter is damaged from the door pillar back to the taillamp. The door shuts fine and seals tight, but there is a noticeable gap in the body line. The taillamp has been replaced, but doesn't line up. The 3.23 rear has been replaced with a 3.42, and one of the chrome ZR1 wheels is gone, but he has the center cap.

He was going to sell me the whole car for $4, but has backed out and wants to keep the engine with acc. and the transmission. I would get to keep everything else including the pcm, harness, and even the exh manifolds.

I have an LS2 longblock that needs a minor repair. It has the coils, but I'd need accesories, intake, TB, plus whatever conversion stuff to make it work with the 24x pcm. I have a friend who will build me a 4L60e for cheap if I can find him an LS1 F-body core. (Will any others work?) I wish this was a t56 car like my 97.

man feels like a can of worms. don't underestimate body damage, especially if you don't have a connection in the business. this is a roller for 2800 that needs to be put on a frame machine and maybe fixed?

Well my friend knows that he can make more money parting the thing out, and if I add up all the stuff I'd like to keep off of it (complete 50K mile interior including dash/carpet/headliner,audio/etc, front clip w SS hood, rear bumper, berger panel, spoiler, ls1 front brake swap, rear with ls1 brakes) even if I just add it all up at bargain prices, it comes very close to that $2,800.

IDK.... that's a lot of $$$ to dump into a parts car, but it would go a long way towards doing everything I want cosmetically to both my camaros.

It's a shame you went through all the work of installing the 24x. What are you doing with your LT1 takeout?

Yea I know...The LT1 just hated me.... Yea like 1961ba427 said I have sold about 95% of everything except for 3 misc boxes of LT1 parts that I have in the attic...If you need anything in particular let me know and I will see what I have...
