Upgrading to aluminm heads from cast iron heads?
I just purchased another camaro.. Its a 1994 ragg top z28 and of course it came with cast iron heads.. My buddie has a pair of aluminum 1997 z28 35th anniversary heads that hes sellin for a little bit of nothing.. What is the major difference between the 2? Besides the weight.

the iron heads actually flow slightly better than the aluminum ones, the main benefits are weight and the fact that the aluminum heads dont heatsoak as badly as the iron ones. that and they are way easier to port lol

no lt1 fbody came with iron heads, either the heads were swapped due to the original ones were warped or cracked, or the whole engine was swapped out with a motor out of a caprice or impala as those were the only ones that had iron heads.
one more difference between em is that the iron heads are straight plugs ie ! ! ! ! and the aluminum ones are angle plugs ie \ / \ /

The stock compression difference between the iron heads and aluminum head motors is .4. The iron head motor was 10.0 with a .029" gasket, the aluminum head motor was 10.4 with a .049" gasket.
Most definitely NOT worth the effort to swap stock for stock and the 97 heads are probably the 571 casting which is the worst of the aluminum heads as cast and for porting.
If his heads are 643 or 374 you might grab them for later porting but still I wouldn't bother swapping stock for stock.
Far as the L99 thing, it says 588 in the location that guys are asking about 327 in, BUT there are places it says 327 so the best way to go about it is going to be look back by the bellhousing for 4.3 or 5.7.
