There is a guy who converted two Donovan gen 1 aluminum blocks for LT1 use, set it up to use the opti, the LT1 mechanical waterpump, reverse flow cooling, LT1 intake. If the market genuinely was there you would see a few more folks doing things like this. Not that everyone who would buy a aftermarket LTx block would instead convert a gen 1 but again I believe if the market were there a few more folks would be doing that.

I am not arguing that many folks who want a big bore block would do a Donovan conversion. BUT IMO if the market was there there would be someone else with deep enough pockets and the will to do the Donovan thing.
I like the point 1961ba427 pointed out people spend a couple grand on the 24x conversion but I would counter with that at the same time those same people will often try and "save" on other CRITICAL parts, this market chooses parts based on a 10% cheaper price difference even if the more expensive one is clearly better.

I used to work across a parking lot from Billy Mitchell. I'm sure he could be convinced of this....

I think money will talk on this one. In the SDPC thread, he was taking names, but no dollars were announced. If this new block is 2000 or less, they should announce it and take 20 500/each deposits. 10k should be enough for the raw materials to get started and this would net 40k in revenue right off the top. (assuming all the molds are available already)

I have my name on that list!
For the vendors that think there is no market all they need to do is check out ebay once a year when one of those GM Raceshop blocks happen to pop up. I have seen 2 of them in the past 3 years. The 1st one sold for just over 3 grand, and the last one was gobbled up by a guy on here for like $3800 or something close to that.
