LS1 Lid with a stock Firebird hood
Anyone running a lid conversion with a stock Trans am hood. Im looking at CAIs and figured I might as well do a lid. I dont mind cutting the hood but dont want to cut the car.
Ive searched a little and found a guy did the swap on a v6 bird but I figured the radiator support may be different.

Ok, I see now where you have to cut the car and it doesnt seem like a big idea. The stock lids on the LS cars looks very flat and Im pretty sure it would fit under the hood but Im not sure on an SLP or similar.

I'm trying to fit it right now with the stock hood and it's taking ALOT of cutting. If you dont have ac and an electric water pump like I do it would make it easier because you can lay the radiator back more. So far I've have to cut a big piece of bracing from the hood and a section of the core support and it still hits on the fake air vents since they stick down so far

Would a V6 radiator cover like he used work on a V8? Is the filter element the same as a LS1 cars?

Thread revival.... Okay, so I looked at the pics and alot of threads and this one and the link above with the V6 are the only ones for the Firebirds with stock hoods.
Do I need to use an LS1 radiator shroud cover/support (whatever that thing is that people buy to give the complete Non-hack job), it seems it adds more uneeded height if its purely for aesthetics. Am I wrong?
I have AC and a stock waterpump, can the radiator tilt back far enough so the hood doesn't have to be cut? Ive seen the cuts in pics of the firebird hood and its not a big deal if it needs to be done, but if it can be avoidable, great.
Now about the crossmember, does it need to be cut differently on firebirds than camaros, or exactly the same?

I have done this and i have a stock hood. Do what all the write ups say and then see where it gets you.
The ls1 lower filter base is used like you said purely to give it a non hack-job look, but this is only from the top. The base needs to be trimmed in tons of areas to fit right, but it does make it look a little cleaner.
I just used the stock rad support and cut it to fit my MTI lid that i have. The top lip of the radiator needs to be cut, it all needs to be laid back. I cut the hood pretty good to make it shut right, but in my eyes it just helps hold it down now. Dont know my clearances but they are very close between the top of the lid and the bottom of the hood, even after i cut.
So just do it like they all say to do it at first, then see where it gets you, you will probably have to mark and cut the hood, but its really no big deal if your handy with a cutoff wheel and a grinder.
Then learn to do the half pop on the hood so noone can see it lol.

So I can use the stock support I have now and just hack it, right? Very cool. So all I need is the couplers, a lid, and a filter and Im good to go with measuring and cutting.
I might buy some sheet metal and fab up my own rad support later on to make it look cleaner.
