Codes and Exhaust
Alright i have googled for literally days. If I was to put RACE headers on my car (95 lt1 6 speed) With a true dual set up. Will it throw a code? If so will it hurt how the car performs?
Im sorry if this subject has been beat to death with a bat wrapped in barbed wire, just cant find it.

Ideally, you'd want to tune out the EGR since you'd be disabling part of what it does. You could do that yourself with an aldl cable and software available at aldlcable.com. You'd need this one; it accomodates the OBDI PCM with a OBDII connector:

I'm essentially doing a stock rebuild + bolt-ons project right now and I opted for a mail order tune to maximize the benefits of headers, true duals, tweak the trans performance, etc. However, it's good to gain the experience of self-tuning although that should be approached with caution and lots of research beforehand. The temptation to overreach may be irresistable.
The AIR does not necessarily need to be tuned out as long as the fuse for it is left in place in the fusebox on the driver's fender block under the hood.

i got rid of egr and air pump and put headers on mine and have 0 codes. you need to run 02s and i would probably get a tune to tune out the egr and air. i have only noticed it runs a little richer but not retarted. good luck! and dont buy ebay headers!!

Well since I want to go full bolt ons too, what would be better tune it myself or go with a mail order tune later down the line when a few extras have been added?

I'm dealing with PCMFORLESS, and they allow you to tweak your tune for moderate changes for $75.00 after an initial mail order tune cost of $175.00. Bryan & Kevin are very good at these cars and have tuned just about any combo you can think of over the years. As close to perfect as you can get without going to the dyno, according to a few members here. That's why I went with them. If you wanted to do the emissions deletes yourself now, you'd be in for an initial cost of about $110.00 between the cable, shipping and decent low cost software.
