Default Wont go into closed loop

I finally got my motor running today and I noticed that it was getting hot and the fans weren't kicking on. With a scan tool I can command the car into closed loop which will turn the fans on, but the fans will not turn on in open loop. Once the fans come on the car stays cool. I deleted the air and egr as well and haven't had the car tuned yet. I dont know if this has anything to do with it. Any ideas?

I looked at the o2's and they looked ok and were switching correctly. Drives great though as long as you are getting air across the radiator. Would the egr solenoid being unplugged have anything to do with it?

what was the outside air temp? I think they kick on at 220f so they may never kick on it the outside air is under 75f... How long did you let it idle? it can take a real long time to go into closed loop. If you have tuning abilities put the fans to come on at a lower temp. you can also set the min amount of seconds before it enters closed loop. have fun. I bet your jumping the gun.

The shop was around 65 degrees. My IAT was reading right around 120 since i didnt have it in the elbow it was just plugged in. The ECT was over 220 at one point and it was continuing to climb so i shut it down to figure out what was going on. Would it be possible to change the fan turn on temperature using a scan tool or not? I didnt see anything but maybe I could. Car is obd2 so no free software.

I had this same problem with my car when i first got it running. It ended up being the coolant temp sensor for the pcm. (its the one on the water pump, the one in the head is for your gauge.) might want to check that.

Sounds like it is operating as designed. Nothing to fix, aside from the loose nut behind the wheel.

The car has a brand new ECT but i will check it again to make sure that isnt it. The fans are not kicking on unless i command the car into closed loop.

The ECT seems to be the problem. It set a code for full hot and full cold tonight when i drove it. It was also skipping around quite a bit. Anybody have any ideas why? Broken wire, bad connection????

Mine was just a bad sensor. Yes it was new as well. Just read waaay to low temperature. Now does the Gage bounce around or does the pcm reading bounce around?

It is the pcm reading that is bouncing around. I went ahead and replaced the connector already since we had one at the shop and it still does it.

its skipping because the pigtail off the harness going into the temp sensors is loose. I had to replace mine off of another harness

edit: just read your last post. opps

Are you sure you have all the air out of your cooling system? sounds like maybe you could have air trapped and that may be the reason for the bouncing temps.
