I'm going to pull the engine and look through it but am not planning on pulling it all apart and having it cleaned. More or less I want to see if this crap made it through the oil system and wrecked the bearings.

I don't know where this will all end up but I'm very tempted to toss a regular "old school" small block in and just forget this LT1. I found some small distributors that might fit under the cowl. Not a pleasant thought to have to pull the engine to get the distributor or intake off

A flat tappet is very sensitive on break-in, you get the wear pattern wrong and it will munch the cam and or lifters, one reason why they have you drench the things in moly lube.

Flush the engine. Buy a few gallons of cheap oil and when you pull the intake, pour it through the lifter bores, in the heads, everywhere you can. Leave the drain plug out and let it flow out as you're pouring.

Just received a reply from Lunati. The cam I was looking at is ground on a cast core. I'm stunned!

Came to the same conclusion. It has a fuel pump eccentric. The casting has these numbers on it: EP 4001 9C06 5 99 and

WF
2

The 5 99 is stamped in the end of the cam and they wrote over it with one of those vibrating engraving tools. The completely obliterated another number.

Whatever Schneider ground, the base of the lobe is level with the core in some places. I checked the good lobes yesterday with a dial caliper, just for height from the base to the top of the lobe. Found some differences, I'll Mic them today.
