Default ebay lt1 motors

what are your guy's thoughts on these two motors? i'd most likely go with the 383 because of the small difference in price. only thing that worries me is the springs, says they're only rated at 100lbs? must be like lt4 springs? i'd prefer something a little stronger, would also like forged pistons, but i figured i might be able to contact him and see what he can do about those two items.

feedback is perfect, but i'm wondering if anyone on here has REAL WORLD experience with any of his engines?

or is there any other problems you guys see? i'd also talk to him about a different cam, or getting it w/o one. it's looking like one of these will cost about the same as rebuilding my own, plus i could sell my motor for $100-200 maybe

also looking at the clayton 383 motors on ebay. but they're about the same price and i'd still need to pay to get my heads rebuilt, get a cam, and buy the rest of the gaskets... :/

Cast Eagle cranks are known to be very failure prone in recent years, stock one is MUCH better. So if you go with one of those go with the reground GM crank one.

You would be far better off with Clayton.

Positive feedback often just means nobody knows better.

I bought a motor of herb a couple years ago. It was working pretty good until the timing chain broke at 3000 miles. I bent 8 valves and he had me ship everything back to him. He redid the heads and set me a new timing set(this time a double roller set) free of charge.

When I redid my motor for the blower my engine builder found a couple things that were not very good. My block had a rod thrown pretty hard in its past life. He said it should have never been used in a rebuild. So I had to buy another block for my blower motor.
Second was all the bearings were Mexican (Cliv-mex ?) not the standard bearings.

I ordered a 383 with forged flat top mahle forged pistons, H-beam rods, cc 306 cam, and extra head work. It came with nice roller rockers, new oil pump timing set, full gasket kit all for around $3k. I made 356 whp and 39? torque with a mail order tune.

For the money its one heck of deal. But you should ask lots of questions about the parts he is using.
Herb is one of the nicest guys in the biz. I never mentioned the bad block or the cheap bearings to him. PM me for any more questions.

If you're going to buy a motor from someone, do it from someone you know/trust or at
least see the engine running before you buy it. Otherwise, there is a pretty good chance
you are going to end up poorer and with someone else's problem in your lap.

got some more quotes today from different machine shops, almost everyone i called was a lot more reasonable than the one i was planning on taking it to.

looks like i can do my full build they way i want in my price range after all. going to pick up a short block (to get rebuilt while i limp my motor around. it's pretty much free), 1.6rr's and arp bolts from my buddy tomorrow. looks like the build will finally start
