cutting off the muffler....yay or nay?
wuts goin on. im kinda new to this forum stuff so bear with me.anyways i have a 97 trans am lt1 6speed. im thinking bout doin a bunch of things to my bird but dnt know where to start.i love sound but out of all honesty im not the richest guy around so im limited on my budget lol. so i went to a muffler shop and they quoted me on taking the muffler off and putting the straight pipes on for $120. now heres my ? for u guys. they told me i gain hp from doing it. now is that true? if it is how much r we tlkn and will it effect my motor good or bad. lemme know

i bought my car with this done to it... didnt sound HORRIBLE, but didnt sound good either. needless to say, it was the first thing i changed since i like to hear myself think... for 120 bucks you can buy yourself a decent replacement muff, magnaflow, etc and put it on yourself. you'll be MUCH happier

I would say keep your $120, cut it off yourself, buy a single Classic Chambered Powerstick, and clamp the powerstick on with a band clamp, maybe with a turndown. That shouldn't be anywhere near $120 and won't sound like a dump truck.

definatly thanks for the advice. i would love to do it myself but not sure how to do it.especially if it involves welding. if i was to put a different muffler i would def. put magnaflow. but the cheapest ive found a magnaflow muffler for was 300 plus installation. so next question,thanks to the advice b4 im no longer gonna cut the muffler, but how can i buy the magnaflow and do it myself?
