Default Z becoming DD

My Z28 is going to become my DD here in just a few weeks, so I want to do a basic tune-up on it. I've completed most of the regular maintenance over the past year, but have not touched the plugs, wires or cap/rotor. I know the TR55 are the preferred plugs, and the consensus seems to be to use the factory .60 gap.

My questions are:

1. Is the MSD Cap/Rotor a significant upgrade to the stock units? Is it worth the extra cost? Are there any other options?

2. Is anyone running the Taylor Spiro Pro 8mm plug wires? Are they decent wires? Or does anyone have a better recommendation for the money?

Thanks!
~ Timothy

Most will tell you the AC delco rotor is a better choice and you should do the whole optispark as a unit anyhow. Many have had arching problems with Taylor wires also. I personally have had no experience with either, but read what I just said above often.

ill be running spiro 8mm OTVC wires, i hope they dont arch lol!!

as far as preferred plugs i disagree, the tr55 is a cheaper replacement plug, OEM plugs are what i replaced mine with, no problems as far as i know, but they were like 60$ for 8 plugs because they are the platinums i think? Not saying the tr55 is a bad plug, tons of people run them and i have in the past, dont mean its a cheaper part, its just a cheaper solution.

Yes, .050. Typo on my part...I even missed the leading '0'. Imagine a plug with a .60 gap...wow, that is over half an inch! LOL.

I've seen posts that mention people running the TR55's at wider gaps (.055, .060, etc). Any advantage to the wider gap on a stock engine?

Thanks!

Ha yes, easy to figure you meant to but that extra O. I would like to know about the extra gap too as I am running TR55s on a mostly stock engine?

OK, so I found the MSD 8.5mm wireset for $99...anyone know of a better deal? The waterpump on the car looks brand new, and the opti looks like it was replaced around the same time, so I don't think I need a cap/rotor/opti...just plugs and wires.

I do have some mild vibration at high RPMs...spark scatter? Or maybe arcing in the wires? Or just old plugs? Thoughts?

I am going to start with plugs/wires and see how it runs. If the problem persists then I will probably install a CMS opti.

Anyone recommend the Iridium plugs, or are the TR55's good for a DD?

Thanks!
